Abstract
A cikk a tandíjak hallgatói keresletre és felsőoktatási részvételre gyakorolt hatásaival kapcsolatos kiterjedt amerikai szakirodalomra összpontosít. Egy elméleti modell szerint tökéletes információ, versenyzői felsőoktatási piacok és profitmaximáló felsőoktatási intézmények feltételezése mellett a differenciált tandíjak a hallgatók társadalmilag optimális allokációját biztosítják. Az ilyen elméleti eredmények tetszetőssége ellenére is a tényleges felsőoktatási árkülönbségek aligha tulajdoníthatók teljes egészükben a különböző képzések által nyújtott emberi tőke eltéréseinek. A cikkben áttekintett, a tandíjak hallgatói keresletre gyakorolt hatásával kapcsolatos amerikai ökonometriai vizsgálatok túlnyomó többsége a felsőfokú beiratkozás és a tandíjak közti triviális negatív kapcsolatot dokumentálja. A tandíjérzékenység ugyanakkor a hallgatók családi háttere és etnikai hovatartozása szerint szignifikánsan eltérőnek mutatkozik. Bár logikus feltételezés, hogy a jelentkezési/beiratkozási döntés során a nettó ár az, ami számít, és a tandíj növekedése támogatásokkal ellensúlyozható, az empirikus vizsgálatok eredményei szerint a meghirdetett tandíjak, illetve a hallgatói támogatások változásainak hatásai nem szimmetrikusak, s a keresleti hatások támogatási fajták szerint is eltérnek. Az áttekintett elméleti és empirikus szakirodalom tanulságai alapján eldönthető, mennyire kívánatosak a felsőoktatás-finanszírozási politika által kínált különféle lehetőségek, illetve a költségmegosztás javasolt változásai.
