Trade Unions and Protection of Workers’ Interest

Abstract
If the Italian trade union movement, and in particular the Cgil, has avoided a corporative drift, it is largely due to its general representativeness. Between diffi culties and contradictions, its ability to represent general interests, while seeking mediation among them, has represented a bonding agent for a fragmented society and, in particular, for a social and labour world that is increasingly divided. The way to reconstruction of labour market is not through denial of this role, but through management of the large-scale transformations impacting on the economy and enterprise, and reaffirmation of labour and people as fundamental resources. The priority is to set ourselves the objective of a Country dimension in which to rebuild this condition.
