Abstract
The economic network research of Hungary should not neglect analysing the embedding international environment. One dimension of this investigation is polarisation in a centre-periphery structure, since dependency relations deeply influence not only the differences in the state of welfare but also the optional development paths. As a consequence international economic researches must discuss which regions of different countries are linked by domestic polarisation. Theoretically it is also a core issue how regional analysis influence the development ranks of European countries. There are many initiatives for regional approaches to development – like the ‘Blue Banana’ – but they are not strictly linked to development analyses. This paper follows a human approach of development and its basic module as well as indicators. The aim is to discuss European fields of forces and to describe centre and periphery regions in Hungary’s foreign economic environment. The paper argues that these fields determine the regional status and development paths of Hungary’s different areas. The research is based on the Eurostat database and the Regional Statistical Yearbook 2014.
