Abstract
This empirical work follows the contingent valuation methodology to estimate the willingness to pay for entrance to five natural protected areas located in two provinces of Southern Spain. The bid vehicle elicits user values for the parks through an open-ended question. The survey was administered by face-to-face interviews, with a total of 1,229 cases. It is proposed a semilog model to explain the stated payment as a function of location, income, education and age. The model makes sense in terms of both explanatory power and prior expectation on explaining variables.
