Selama pertumbuhan peradaban kuno, teknologi kuno merupakan hasil dari kemajuan teknik pada zaman dahulu. Kemajuan dalam sejarah teknologi ini mendorong masyarakat untuk mengadopsi cara hidup dan pemerintahan baru.
Artikel ini mencakup kemajuan teknologi dan pengembangan beberapa ilmu teknik pada masa sejarah sebelum Abad Pertengahan, yang dimulai setelah jatuhnya Kekaisaran Romawi Barat pada tahun 476 M,[1][2] kematian Yustinianus I pada abad ke-6,[3] kedatangan Islam pada abad ke-7,[4] atau kebangkitan Karolus Agung pada abad ke-8.[5] Untuk teknologi yang dikembangkan dalam masyarakat abad pertengahan, lihat Teknologi abad pertengahan dan Penemuan dalam Islam abad pertengahan.
