Permaisuri Jepang artinya adalah seorang istri permaisuri (皇后 , kōgō). Ratu permaisuri saat ini adalah Permaisuri Masako, yang diangkat pada 1 Mei 2019. Istilah tersebut juga ditujukan kepada penguasa kekaisaran perempuan (女性天皇 , josei tennō, juga 女帝 jotei).
