“[EPICS] teaches the students to think outside of themselves, to invest their energy in real-world projects, and to see their efforts benefit others in the community."

Stephanie Besch from Metro Tech Engineering has a Bachelors of Arts from Santa Clara University and a Masters of Architecture from the Southern California Institute of Architecture.  She worked in residential architecture and landscape architecture in Los Angeles for several years.  After having been in an office setting, Ms. Besch realized she missed having summers off and the time for traveling. She therefore applied and was accepted into the Los Angeles Teaching Fellowship program and subsequently earned my certification in secondary education. Ms. Besch moved to Phoenix in 2006 and started teaching with the Phoenix Union.

She is certified in and has taught Physics, Biology, Anatomy / Physiology, Architectural Drafting and most recently Engineering Sciences.  Ms. Besch currently teaches Engineering Sciences at Metro Tech High School in the Phoenix Union.  She was first introduced to the EPICS program four years ago. Ms. Besch finds the program invaluable and incorporate it into the curriculum for my senior engineering students.  She enjoys approaching the program literally - reaching out to non-profit organizations in the community in order for the students to design/build them a project in direct response to their needs. It teaches the students to think outside of themselves, to invest their energy in real-world projects, and to see their efforts benefit others in the community.
