standpipe (plural standpipes)

1. A vertical pipe into which water is pumped so that a desired pressure is available at the bottom.
   1. (by extension) A vertical pipe used as an overflow protection drain in certain domestic plumbing fixtures (e.g. flush toilets).
2. The water supply of a building for the use of firefighters.
3. A freestanding pipe fitted with a tap which is installed outdoors to dispense water.
