editThis word is used when the statement was valid in the past and it still applies to the present moment. If it doesn't apply to the present, meddig should be used instead, which can refer to the past (with a past-tense verb), whether to the end point or to the entire duration, and also to the future or a period including the future (with a verb in the present or the future tense).
