Etymology

From Proto-Sino-Tibetan *ʔəw-ŋ (pot; vat; jar) (reconstructed provisionally). Related to (OC *qoːnʔ), (OC *qoːnʔ, “bowl”), and possibly (OC *qoːŋs, “urn”). Compare Burmese အိုး (ui:, pot) (Schuessler, 2007).

Pronunciation
