WP Mesoamerica Article To-Do navigation:

New & RequestedStub expansionAttention & CleanupImprovementReview preparation

This Project subpage lists the following article-related activities, as part of the current worklist:

  1. articles for general improvements
  2. articles needing images/photos/illustrations
  3. articles needing maps/diagrams

Lists 2 and 3 are likely to be a subset of list 1, so an article could be listed under 1 as well if there are other improvements needed apart from the sourcing of image(s) or map(s) before it can be considered "substantially complete".

At some point it may be convenient to group articles on this worklist by similar topic or category, so that related articles can be worked on in parallel more easily. For now, place entries into the lists in descending alpha order.

Article improvement - instructions

This listing is for articles to be worked on for general improvement of content and coverage. Such articles are further developed than stubs (see worklist at WP:MESO/EXP for those) and are not in need of particular remedial attention or cleanup (see worklist at WP:MESO/ATN). Articles for improvement however have not as yet reached a stage where they could be considered substantially 'complete', and the general idea here is to work on them with a view to readying these for further quality (eg FAC) or peer review. To reach that stage these articles for improvement need to be reviewed to determine whether they cover all relevant aspects in appropriate detail (the topics/themes outlined in the Scope subpage is a good starting-point), the information is accurate and cited appropriately, the prose and presentation is up to scratch, etc etc. General wikipedia editing guidelines and conventions, as well as the specific project editing guidelines would also be recommended best practice.

Articles needing images- instructions

It is desirable for Articles to be illustrated with appropriate imgs/photos wherever possible. List here those which would particularly benefit from such illustrations, you can also place an "image needed" tag on the article's talk page and/or note there the type of image being sought. When working on these, ensure that any images found are eligible for inclusion (ie have a valid license). Searching through Commons or other language wikis may help (an outstanding Project task is to categorise relevant images, and catalogue these at the project's image catalogue).

Articles needing maps/diagrams- instructions

Quality maps and diagrams are also desirable for many articles. List here those in need, you can also place a "map needed" tag on the article's talk page and/or note there the type of map being sought. (An outstanding Project task is to develop a common set of base maps which can be reused and/or amended across multiple articles, placed on Commons and also noted at the Project's image catalogue).

Once satisfied (it might be an idea to seek some informal opinion) that the article has reached a standard where it is at or near the point at which some form of promotional review can be considered, and/or the img/map request is filled, remove the entry from the list(s). The article should now be ready for the final 'polishing' stage and can now be listed at the Prepare for review worklist. Job well done! when Once expanded, i.e. there's now enough material to at least give a good summary of the topic to hand, the stub tag(s) in the article should be removed, and the article's entry on the expansion list below deleted. To keep the article in the pool of current in-work articles, you can then add it to the Improvement or other appropriate listing.

To assign a particular article-for-improvement some degree of priority, you can also add it to the 'improvement' section on the Project's priority Tasklist template, {{WP Mesoamerica tasklist}}. The number of such entries on this template should be kept to a handful, say around 6 to 10 maximum. Remember to update the template once you're through with improving the article.

If the lists below begins to grow too long to appear comfortably when viewed from the Activities mainpage, additional requests can be placed under the "Holding queue" section below, awaiting action.

Specific instructions for the Mesoamerica article rating and assessment scheme:

  1. Articles for general improvements will typically have a rating of Start-Class or B-Class (more rarely, GA-Class and A-Class), and are categorised accordingly. Update the rating if one has not yet been recorded by setting the {{WP Mesoamerica}} parameter, |class=Start or |class=B (or other, as appropriate).
  2. Once improvements are made, update the class to a new quality status if that is now warranted.
  3. Set |reassess=yes if you wish to request another's opinion on the status.

The content of the list below appears on the Activities mainpage.

If the listing above becomes too long to be comfortably viewed on the Activities mainpage, any additional entries can be listed in this section, which will not appear on the Activities mainpage view. As the "active" listing is worked through, these can then be moved from the "holding" to the active list.
