Mentorship
editJust thought I would discuss this here instead of at that article.CycoMa1 (talk) 00:57, 9 February 2022 (UTC)
I'd just like to state for the record that at no time have I suggested that CycoMa1 be sanctioned, and that I strongly object to the way Psiĥedelisto used my comments on my talk page to call for them. The proposal was inappropriate, and unjustified. AndyTheGrump (talk) 01:22, 9 February 2022 (UTC)
- @AndyTheGrump: I will respond to you as well outside of general comment on my future plans in below section as you seem most hurt by my action. You wrote to CycoMa1 you lack the necessary skills to usefully contribute to the article in the manner you have been. Please note that in my section, I wrote I'd like to hear your view on what form community sanctions should take. I should not have used the term community sanctions in that sentence and that was a blunder. All I meant was, I'd like to hear your view on what should happen next. I did not mean to imply you were asking for sanctions in the talk page section I linked, and I should not have used a term with such a well defined onwiki meaning. I still think you should state your view as to what should happen next, either here or somewhere else! But clearly—clearly—my involvement is not helping better the article, better civility standards, or better the project in general, when Barkeep49 sees fit to close the section and you see fit to state right here in no uncertain terms you don't think CycoMa1 ought to be sanctioned. So, if not that, I hope everyone will figure out what to do next, because I'm voluntarily self-recusing from furry fandom and its talk page (until 2023-02-09), regardless of any WikiBreak I may or may not take due to being warn out from OI DYK/GA, which was very difficult. If people want to ask me about this incident that can happen on my talk. I am doing this because I believe there are many interested Wikipedians in furry fandom article and I am not essential to finding a resolution in the near term. It's not a font article or something with very few onwiki experts, and I am taking your words to heart—hopefully if I return to trying to comment on that article, I'll have more experience editing controversial topics, which I do not do a lot of, note my user page.Post scriptum: I did let Barkeep49 know this, but just to say to everyone: I really did not know you can't discuss whether an ANI discussion is needed among a smaller group of editors on an article talk. All the best, Psiĥedelisto (talk • contribs) please always ping! 19:07, 9 February 2022 (UTC)
- I don’t know I think this proposal is a little unfair. A good amount of you guys are fully aware I have been here since 2020.
- Other editors are aware I can identify reliable sources and write in decent English. I have even received barnstars before. So mentorship just feels a thing more appropriate for new editors.CycoMa1 (talk) 19:18, 9 February 2022 (UTC)
- @CycoMa1: I would say your view that it's unfair is the majority view, and I wouldn't want to act against a majority consensus, so it's also my view, thus my self-recusal for having brought it up, so you and other editors that are not me can figure out what happens next without me giving my opinion on your conduct. I don't think my involvement is helping at all—probably something we both agree on! Psiĥedelisto (talk • contribs) please always ping! 19:21, 9 February 2022 (UTC)
To answer Psiĥedelisto's question above, what I think needs to happen next is for everyone to wait for more opinions on how to proceed, or if they aren't forthcoming in a reasonable time, to hold an RfC. It simply isn't appropriate to start talking about 'sanctions' based on the opinions of a very few contributors, after only a couple of days. What I was hoping to achieve by starting the thread on Talk:Furry fandom was to get further input on whether my assessment of the issues with the article was fair, and hopefully, if others agree with me, to convince CycoMa1 that it would be better to leave the article to others. It is one thing to be able to create acceptable stub articles on plant species say, but another thing entirely to be able to tackle a complex subject, requiring a lot more than the regurgitation of factual data from a couple of sources. Being able to write well on complex subjects is a skill that takes time to learn, and using existing Wikipedia articles to do so is far from ideal. I don't want to discourage CycoMa1 from acquiring such skills, I just don't think that the furry article is an appropriate place to do it. I was as blunt as I was in my assessment of the article because I felt the point needed to be got across. As for self-recusing, Psiĥedelisto, that's up to you, but I don't think it is necessary. AndyTheGrump (talk)20:01, 9 February 2022 (UTC)
- @AndyTheGrump: regarding this statement.
- It is one thing to be able to create acceptable stub articles on plant species say, but another thing entirely to be able to tackle a complex subject, requiring a lot more than the regurgitation of factual data from a couple of sources. Being able to write well on complex subjects is a skill that takes time to learn, and using existing Wikipedia articles to do so is far from ideal.
- As a little side note I have written articles on a variety of topics. From mythology, evolution, medicine, places, sexology, and so much more.
- Some of the things I listed require a bit of understanding of complex topics or issues. I mean come on I literally wrote articles about diseases that affect less than 100 people.CycoMa1 (talk) 20:44, 18 February 2022 (UTC)
- @AndyTheGrump: Noted, but I do, and to explain why—because although I've spent quite a lot of time writing on obscure topics (Mojikyō; Deseret alphabet; Bureau of Immigration Bicutan Detention Center), and turning some of these into GA's, I really overestimated my confidence when dealing with talk pages of contentious topics. Just this word—sanction—you use its very specific definition (anything imposed by a consensus at AN/I), I did not quite understand that nuance, clearly. If I'm going to be more helpful than disruptive in the future to complex talk pages for contentious articles, then I'm going to need time to really read thoroughly everything about WP:DR, what the different WP:AN's are for, what are all the types of sanctions and where they come from (for example, one reason I thought my thread was fine is that it had no force—if a lot of us agree, then CycoMa1 would probably, being a good faith editor, which I do believe, just voluntarily say something like "okay, I'll try this for <however long>"), more essays, and so on. Basically, your comment—quite rightfully—makes me feel incompetent in the area of onwiki WP:DR, and knowing how busy I am, I'm gonna need a year to do all that reading and be very clear about the rules so I don't make blunders that seem obvious from outside and which it seems someone of my account age shouldn't make. But my solitary editing style for almost all of my time here is the problem. If I had no other demands I'd lower it to a month, but that's not realistic for me. So I'm very fine with the year. It helps for everyone to remember their competences. I can't say CycoMa1 is not competently writing prose, which I feel I'm good at, but then not recognize my own incompetence re: WP DR when it's made so manifest, right—that'd be far too hypocritical. The year also includes the fact that this lined up weird for me—I'm around more because of my OI DYK/GA, which ended today right during this. So it's been my commitment to do other free content things—especially work on my font editor, and less Wikipedia, when that's over. Sorry to bother you with my life's minutia, but I want you to understand this is not some silly self-flagellation, I really need a year to do what would take most a month who can dedicate more hours to WP, because I planned to take a WikiBreak as soon as my DYK was over.
:-)
Psiĥedelisto (talk • contribs) please always ping! 20:24, 9 February 2022 (UTC)- I think you are probably reading too much into this. There has obviously been a fair bit of miscommunication involved, and I don't think you should hold yourself responsible for most of that. I probably didn't help matters much myself, with my first post above, which with hindsight came across harsher than it needed to. We should probably all treat it as a learning experience. DYK for Osteogenesis imperfecta
editOn 9 February 2022, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Osteogenesis imperfecta, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that osteogenesis imperfecta causes blue eyes (pictured)—and brittle bones? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Osteogenesis imperfecta. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Osteogenesis imperfecta), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

- Those eyes stare into my soul. Great work here! We don't see too many disorder articles getting to the front page. Panini!🥪 13:26, 9 February 2022 (UTC)
Thank you. --GRuban (talk) 14:17, 9 February 2022 (UTC)
- @Amakuru, GRuban, and Panini!: Thank you all! 🥰 This was in some ways my hardest article to write, and it took a lot out of me, so I am probably going to take a short WikiBreak now that it passed DYK with my most preferred hook text. I have other plans but need some time to regroup, my fonts won't develop themselves after all. (Not yet anyway—font creating AGI? Well, maybe I am one! 🤖) (This part cc: AndyTheGrump, CycoMa1.) And my other near term onwiki project, figuring out what to do about furry fandom, (see above section if you care…) turns out I very much misread the room, (typical of me,) so that means at least in the immediate term I will be stepping back from that as clearly I'm not helping, and I try to apply Hippocratic oath to my edits, so when I fail at first, do no harm then we may as well say the Fred version is “if you've already done harm, don't do more”. Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge
editHi Psiĥedelisto, I'd like to let you know that I have boldly added Jueteng to Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge attached to your name. Please let me know if you'd like it to be removed, or add other articles you have worked on that may be relevant! Best, CMD (talk) 06:10, 20 March 2022 (UTC)
- @Chipmunkdavis: No problem at all with me. (Very strange how an IP removed this four times, though? Why?) I can't seem to figure out which of my articles may qualify, but if I had to guess Bureau of Immigration Bicutan Detention Center is most likely to, maybe also People of the Philippines v. Ressa, et al. and Disini v. Secretary of Justice; if rewrites are allowed, Quo warranto petition against Maria Lourdes Sereno, and if Japan content is allowed, Mojikyō; if both Japan and rewrites, 2channel. Oh, and if it's not too old, Tagalog profanity. Psiĥedelisto (talk • contribs) please always ping! 22:55, 23 March 2022 (UTC)

Ethan Ralph sex offender status
editI don't really know if I'm supposed to comment on the talk page, the edit history, or just here, so let me know if I'm going through the right channels. I think not calling Ralph a sex offender is probably the right decision, since the revenge porn charge isn't punishable by registration as a sex offender in his state. I was under the impression that it was, so my bad on that front. P.S.: Thanks for cleaning up the revenge porn conviction subsection, it looks a lot cleaner than the initial version I wrote! --ShinyDialga777 (talk) 10:03, 15 April 2022 (UTC)

Wheely
editHello, Psiĥedelisto! After a holiday weekend here in the U.S., I've returned to see if you're interested in revisiting the ongoing discussions at Talk:Wheely. I realize the requests have overlapped a bit, so please let me know if you'd prefer I place a 'request edit' tag on any specific item.
As a reminder, here are the requests:
here, I've suggested removing Anton's name from citation #37 since there's no bylineDone- here, I suggested removing mention of some cities because service areas are mentioned in the History section; this request prompted you to expand service areas content in the Services section, including mention of Dubai
- since you mentioned Dubai, I submitted a request here with alternative text about the Middle East expansion and shared other thoughts for improving the History section
I still think there's some redundancy with mentioning service areas in both History and Services, but I leave the editorial decisions to you and other contributors. Thanks again for your continued assistance. Inkian Jason (talk) 15:21, 5 July 2022 (UTC)

GETs
editEpicPupper just found out that he was the person who made https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?oldid=1100000000... which gives me an idea... it's too much of a task to do all on my own, but it would be kind of cool to assemble a list. You wanna help make a subpage of WP:RECORDS for all the GETs on here? jp×g 19:45, 1 August 2022 (UTC)
- @JPxG: Hahaha it's a really funny idea but perhaps reconsider. If this becomes a widely fought over/sought after metric people will start gaming the system with disallowed automated tools like they do on imageboards. Unbulleted list citebundle
editHello, since you created the {{unbulleted list citebundle}} template, I'm hoping that you can help me implement it correctly. The sole purpose of the template seems to be to account for the first line break that is otherwise visible in the {{unbulleted list}} template, but the template displays exactly the same (with a line break before the first item) as the regular unbulleted list template. Request to complete DYK review
editGreetings Psiĥedelisto! I wanted to ask if you could complete the DYK review here: Template:Did you know nominations/Maureen Keleher and St. Francis Hospice, Hawaii (The DYK submission won't progress without a final green tick.) Thanks again for all your advice, your feedback was helpful in improving the article, and I see you have also uncovered some of the interesting history behind the Sisters of St. Francis. @Cielquiparle: Thank you for the ping. Accidentally broke my computer. Did my review and answered on my own dyk too. Psiĥedelisto (talk • contribs) please always ping! 05:14, 5 February 2023 (UTC)

Editing news 2023 #1
editRead this in another language • Subscription list for this newsletter
This newsletter includes two key updates about the Editing team's work:
- The Editing team will finish adding new features to the Talk pages project and deploy it.
- They are beginning a new project, Edit check.
Talk pages project
The Editing team is nearly finished with this first phase of the Talk pages project. Nearly all new features are available now in the Beta Feature for Discussion tools.
It will show information about how active a discussion is, such as the date of the most recent comment. There will soon be a new "Add topic" button. You will be able to turn them off at Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-editing-discussion. Please tell them what you think.
An A/B test for Discussion tools on the mobile site has finished. Editors were more successful with Discussion tools. The Editing team is enabling these features for all editors on the mobile site.
New Project: Edit Check
The Editing team is beginning a project to help new editors of Wikipedia. It will help people identify some problems before they click "Publish changes". The first tool will encourage people to add references when they add new content. Please watch that page for more information. You can join a conference call on 3 March 2023 to learn more.
DYK for Empath
editOn 7 March 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Empath, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that mirror neurons may explain the phenomenon of empaths? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Empath. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Empath), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Request help for court case infoboxes
editPsiĥedelisto: I am impressed with the work you did on New Era v Carol/Atack and especially the infobox. Case designations are gobbledegook to me, so I don't feel qualified to make any decent infoboxes using Template:Infobox court case. There are about 9 of the extant litigation articles with no infoboxes (Category:Scientology articles needing infoboxes). Would you be interested in making infoboxes for them, or finding the esoteric 'case info' to put in the parameters and I'll stick it in there? Any help would be appreciated, if you're interested. - If the case is consolidated at any point it gets a single template.
- The highest court that hears the case decides the seal. Id est, if certiorari is denied at any point then the court below decides the seal.

- @Psiĥedelisto: That's cool. I can't believe you straightened out the Armstrong cases... 8 cases into 2. See, I knew you knew more about this case stuff than I could do. I spent a whole day just trying to fill out the Gerry Armstrong article, and I don't consider it finished. I dared not touch the case article at the time. Eventually I want to get a good grasp of the scope of what we have here in Wikipedia and make a navbar and/or table-list of cases and litigants, and straighten out the categories (Category:Scientology litigation, Category:Scientology and law). There are too many articles falling through the cracks. Grorp (talk) 07:56, 17 April 2023 (UTC)
- @Grorp: I'm not sure it's totally done but WP:WORKINPROGRESS so if I made an error another editor will correct it eventually hopefully. I'll try to do some of the others but all Scieno litigation is complex. Psiĥedelisto (talk • contribs) please always ping! 08:03, 17 April 2023 (UTC)

Orloff
editI think that obituary might actually refer to someone else. It mentions someone who earned an EdD late in life and who was a therapist, but it says nothing I can see about an MD, psychiatry, or UCLA. I notice that the [facebook.com/DrJudithOrloff/ Facebook page] of the MD is active as of two days ago, there is no mention of any death, and a March post specifically refers to a planned April event. Odd similarities, but it seems like a different person. Larry Hockett (Talk) 09:16, 17 April 2023 (UTC)
- @Larry Hockett: I'm sorry but the only options that are coming to mind are . Her Twitter is inactive. Born in Philly, and someone keeps removing clairvoyant from page from a Boulder, CO IP address, but we never had this issue when she was alive. I think someone has taken over her "brand" perhaps. Psiĥedelisto (talk • contribs) please always ping! 14:38, 17 April 2023 (UTC)
- double life
- made up parents’ names / early history to avoid doxing while alive
- @Larry Hockett: Nevermind. Doxed both of them, (I don't think admitting to knowing how is against policy as long as I don't post any of the results), and you are right: Judith Orloff of Boulder, CO ≠ Judith Orloff of Boulder, CO. Wow. Psiĥedelisto (talk • contribs) please always ping! 14:40, 17 April 2023 (UTC)
- @Larry Hockett: Addendum: Orloff seems to have no ties to Colorado and I mistook her for that because some webpages that come up when you search for “judith orloff colorado” on Google show the picture of the MD we use despite being about the teacher. Psiĥedelisto (talk • contribs) please always ping! 14:44, 17 April 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks for taking a look at that. A weird situation for sure, with both of them being involved in mental health and academia. I thought there might be an issue, but I wasn't confident enough to edit the entry any further. Thank you for taking care of it. Larry Hockett (Talk) 15:07, 17 April 2023 (UTC)

Replaceable non-free use File:Hide the Pain Harold (András Arató).jpg
editThanks for uploading File:Hide the Pain Harold (András Arató).jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of non-free use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of non-free use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the file description page and add the text
{{Di-replaceable non-free use disputed|<your reason>}}
below the original replaceable non-free use template, replacing<your reason>
with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable. - On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification, per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:20, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
- This file was tagged for speedy deletion for WP:F7 reasons by a Wikipedia administrator named JJMC89. I'm only adding the above notification as a courtesy. If you disagree with the assessment of the non-free use of this file, you should follow the instructions given above or in the template added to the file's page. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:23, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
- @Marchjuly: I really appreciate the heads up and disputed the tag. Psiĥedelisto (talk • contribs) please always ping! 03:41, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free image File:NUJP logo.png
editThanks for uploading File:NUJP logo.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 17:24, 11 September 2023 (UTC)

Chair law
editUser:Psiĥedelisto Thank you for translating the chair law article into English! I have added information on chair laws into the Right to sit article for Chile, Argentina, Mexico, Spain, and Uruguay. Are you aware of chair laws in any other Spanish-speaking countries? I haven't been able to find anything on suitable seating laws in Japan. The Philippines and Puerto Rico once had seating laws, but they may have been repealed. EDIT - the last mention I have found is from a presidential decree in 1974. I think the first seating law was passed in the Philippines during US rule, but the earliest source in the article mentions a law from 1952. Bohemian Baltimore (talk) 20:40, 7 October 2023 (UTC)
- @Bohemian Baltimore: Regarding the Philippines, its Labor Code remains good law. But do note, the guarantee as exists as of Republic Act №11058 is significantly watered down; only applies to women, and only if sitting won't affect their productivity. See the full law's 2022 edition as amended and renumbered courtesy of the DOLE: [2]; [3]. No idea about other countries, sorry. File:Outline of Iceland Deformation Zones.svg
editI noted several minor inaccuracies in this file you produced in 2017, some relating to relatively recent geological understanding of current Iceland geology. Rather than change all the relevant en:Wikpedia pages rather than just the ones where your picture is obviously inconsistent with the text do you object to me asking for permission to overload my svg based on yours to the file. I have of course no objection to you doing this yourself. I have noted your very useful contributions over time.
