AfD support
First, thanks for your support. Second, if it is inappropriate for me to be commenting here, rather than at the AfD, please let me know, I just didn't want to clog up the AfD. Now, about your comment - just to let you know, EA's comment about the inherent notability came after my subsequent prod. In declining the A7 the comment was: "Declining speedy; not appropriate type of article for A7; references required". After which I prodded it, since it had no references. An ip then contested the prod with "cite a reliable source and contest deletion - "rail line" is an indication of notability". As this was occurring, EA and I had a brief discussion on my talk page, which can be found here. I hope that clears it up for you, and alleviates any concern you might have. Happy New Year. Onel5969 TT me 13:57, 3 January 2017 (UTC)
- Hi @Onel5969: It is RfA, not AfD ;) I apologise, I was under the impression that timestamps in edit history generally coincide with those in signatures. This is what it displays for me:
- 15 Nov, 22:09 EspressoAddict declines the speedy
- 15 Nov, 22:29 You prod
- The message of 'would survive AfD' carries the timestamp 20:53, that's what got me alerted. Now, looking into the talk page history, this edit was made at 22:54, indeed after your prod. I'm sorry and will strike my comment. Cheers, Pgallert (talk) 14:17, 3 January 2017 (UTC)
- Lol about the AfD/RfA error. No need to strike the comment, and that's not what I was aiming for, simply saw you had a concern and wanted to alleviate it. Have a great day. Onel5969 TT me 14:32, 3 January 2017 (UTC)
- No, I was wrong in my comment, and that shouldn't have repercussions for you. Later this week you might get a lot of 'per XXX' opposes where editors take negative statements for granted, and don't check them out for themselves again. Or, maybe not you but some of your fellow candidates. I really looked hard to find something wrong with you, and this was the only thing I could dig up ;) --Pgallert (talk) 14:46, 3 January 2017 (UTC)

New Page Review - newsletter No.2
- A HUGE backlog
We now have 804 New Page Reviewers!
Most of us requested the user right at PERM, expressing a wish to be able to do something about the huge backlog, but the chart on the right does not demonstrate any changes to the pre-user-right levels of October.
The backlog is still steadily growing at a rate of 150 a day or 4,650 a month. Only 20 reviews a day by each reviewer over the next few days would bring the backlog down to a managable level and the daily input can then be processed by each reviewer doing only 2 or 3 reviews a day - that's about 5 minutes work!
It didn't work in time to relax for the Xmas/New Year holidays. Let's see if we can achieve our goal before Easter, otherwise by Thanksgiving it will be closer to 70,000.
- Second set of eyes
Remember that we are the only guardians of quality of new articles, we alone have to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged by non-Reviewer patrollers and that new authors are not being bitten.
- Abuse
This is even more important and extra vigilance is required considering Orangemoody, and
- this very recent case of paid advertising by a Reviewer resulting in a community ban.
- this case in January of paid advertising by a Reviewer, also resulting in a community ban.
- This Reviewer is indefinitely blocked for sockpuppetry.
Coordinator election
Kudpung is stepping down after 6 years as unofficial coordinator of New Page Patrolling/Reviewing. There is enough work for two people and two coords are now required. Details are at NPR Coordinators; nominate someone or nominate yourself. Date for the actual suffrage will be published later.

Op-ed
Hi,
In case you haven't noticed, a "reply" to your op-ed about workshops: Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost/2017-02-06/Op-ed.
Thanks for writing your op-ed—it finally got me to write that article, which I planned to write for a long time :) --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 13:21, 6 February 2017 (UTC)
- Hi User:Amire80, that was a very good addition, much more thorough than my own. I have commented right at the Op-ed. Cheers! Pgallert (talk) 06:52, 7 February 2017 (UTC)
Marlice van Vuuren nominated for deletion
Hi there, I nominated Marlice van Vuuren for speedy deletion. If you feel I am off base in this nomination, please let me know. To me, it looks like a page created primarily for promotional reasons.--TM 18:05, 11 February 2017 (UTC)
- Hi TM, well, you saw what happened to the Speedy. The reasons to turn it down ("Runs a notable establishment. Has a notable spouse.") are technically correct, although the notability of N/a’an ku sê Wildlife Sanctuary, created by the same SPA and in the same promotional tone, is likewise not established, and a notable spouse does not establish notability in any way. Pinging @Adam9007: in case they want to pitch in. Not sure if it is worth it to start an ordinary deletion request. N/a’an ku sê is somewhere close to approaching notability. If it stays, van Vuuren also stays. I guess we'll just have to monitor it for the inevitable spin it is going to get from its employees. Cheers, Pgallert (talk) 05:53, 13 February 2017 (UTC)

New Page Review - newsletter No.3
Voting for coordinators has now begun HERE and will continue through/to 23:59 UTC Monday 06 March. Please be sure to vote. Any registered, confirmed editor can vote. Nominations are now closed.
- Still a MASSIVE backlog
We now have 804 New Page Reviewers but despite numerous appeals for help, the backlog has NOT been significantly reduced.
If you asked for the New Page Reviewer right, please consider investing a bit of time - every little helps preventing spam and trash entering the mainspace and Google when the 'NO_INDEX' tags expire.

Speedy deletion nomination of Category:19th century in South-West Africa
A tag has been placed on Category:19th century in South-West Africa requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and it is not presently under discussion at Categories for discussion, or at disambiguation categories.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Please support the Sustainability Initiative!
Hi, Pgallert! Please allow me to follow up on a project that was discussed at the Wikimedia Conference in Berlin a couple of weeks ago:
I am writing you to ask for your support for the Sustainability Initiative, which aims at reducing the environmental impact of the Wikimedia movement. Over the past two years, more than 250 Wikipedians from all over the world have come together to push the Wikimedia movement towards greater sustainability.
The Board of Trustees of the Wikimedia Foundation has recently passed a resolution stating that the Foundation is committed to seeking ways to reduce the impact of its activities on the environment. Now, we are working with the Wikimedia Foundation staff to have all Wikimedia servers run on renewable energy by 2019.
In order to demonstrate that this is an issue that the community really cares about, I would like to ask you to sign the project page as well. Thank you! --Gnom (talk) 15:52, 14 April 2017 (UTC)

Editathon
Hi Peter. Have you organised an editathon or are you teaching a class to use Wikipedia today? There is a whole slew of very similar bios arrived at en.Wiki around 13:00 UTC from different user names. Please let me know. Perhaps they should be moved to draft. Regards, Chris (Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 11:41, 29 July 2017 (UTC))
- Hi Chris! No, that wasn't me. Namibian topics? --Pgallert (talk) 13:37, 29 July 2017 (UTC)
- No, not Nambian. Mainly BLP about women in SA. See [1] where it was launched on television. Unfortunately a lot of the pages can't be used. Which is a shame. Do you have any contacts in the SA chapter? Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 00:00, 30 July 2017 (UTC)
Category Unfair dismissal in Namibia.
Hi Pgallert,
Thank you for the welcome. I have removed the said category tag from Unfair dismissal in Namibia as I found it to be rather 'just hanging on it's own' and a separate labour issue in the main category for the Category:Labour law by country. Perhaps you can take the time, click and see what am talking about. Thanks. TulongaN (talk) 12:22, 5 August 2017 (UTC)
- Hi TulongaN, and thanks for explaining your line of thought. You are entirely correct, the Unfair dismissal page did not really fit in there. Alas, it is a labour law issue, and the only reason it is standing on its own is the lack of related coverage for Namibia. I have created a parent category Category:Namibian labour law and allocated Unfair dismissal in Namibia to it... this is still not ideal until there is an article Namibian labour law but I believe it at least reflects the logical structure now. Please let me know if you're not happy with this. Thanks, Pgallert (talk) 19:11, 5 August 2017 (UTC)
DYK Nom?
Hello, Pgallert. I hope you had a very nice summer. Would you mind nominating Just the Beginning (Grace VanderWaal album) for DYK? The hook could be something like: "...that America's Got Talent winner Grace VanderWaal, now 13 years old, announced the release date of her first full-length album, Just the Beginning, composed of her original songs." -- Ssilvers (talk) 05:52, 19 September 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Ssilvers! I had a short but good winter, thanks ;) I'm in the Southern hemisphere... Will nominate the article. Cheers, Pgallert (talk) 08:47, 19 September 2017 (UTC)
- @Ssilvers: Just had a look at the article. I'm surprised that it is not explicitly mentioned that she wrote all the songs herself (reference 1)? Regarding the hook, I'm not sure if we aren't somewhat in OR territory here, and I need to quote a source for DYK: Is there a ref that says that the release of the album has something to do with the sell-out of the tour?
- Thanks! I rewrote the hook above (and modified the article to make it clearer that she has a writing credit on all the tracks). Footnotes 1, 3 and 4 all state that VanderWaal has a writing or co-writing credit for all the songs. Please feel free to suggest a better hook! -- Ssilvers (talk) 17:59, 19 September 2017 (UTC)
Another nom?
Is it too late to nominate Liza Koshy? This article was deleted months ago, and was revived last week by Milowent and me. Then another editor tried to delete it (first by speedy delete and then by AfD). Anyhow, it robustly survived the deletion attempt yesterday, and it's about a very important young actress and social media star. Here's a suggested hook:
"... that, up to August 2017, actress Liza Koshy was the fastest YouTuber to reach 10 million subscribers." (See footnote 10). -- Ssilvers (talk) 17:05, 22 September 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Ssilvers, this is a few days late, unfortunately. Should it happen again that an AfD discussion is about an eligible article, please ask me to nominate it anyway to keep the deadline. The nomination will then be on hold but in time. Anyway, good work! --Pgallert (talk) 08:57, 23 September 2017 (UTC)
- OK, thanks! -- Ssilvers (talk) 15:41, 23 September 2017 (UTC)
DYK for Just the Beginning (Grace VanderWaal album)
On 7 October 2017, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Just the Beginning (Grace VanderWaal album), which you recently nominated. The fact was ... that a 13-city tour for Just the Beginning, a November 2017 album release by 13-year-old America's Got Talent winner Grace VanderWaal, sold out in September? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Just the Beginning (Grace VanderWaal album). Last minute call for jurors at the Wiki Science Competition
Hi, i don't if you missed all the messages I left here and on commons and wikiveristy about this event.
I am checking with Ivo Kruusamägi from Wikimedia Estonia the composition of the final jury. We did our best to keep it balanced by continent, gender, field etc but in the end it is still a little bit eurocentric. I mean, it is good they are not all from Estonia and Italy, but of course it could have been better. Finding 15 names (and other one for more national juries) to help was not easy... I did gather some "maybes" from China and India in private that might be used next time, including people in national juries that we can promote but so far I could only reduce the gender unbalance.
I hope that the results will promote science around the globe in any case. As a last appropriate effort now that more urgent issues have been addressed and we are finalizing the main organization, I am looking all the profiles of active wikimedians from Africa, Oceania or Asia with a public name and surname (jurors should be transparent) and a scientific or technological position.
Would you be interested in joining us to be a juror in the second-level jury? I am sure that next time we will find new additional contacts and I will find your name not at the last minute. Of course, if we can finally get two or three new names, we can promote one of them in the final jury too.
Even you don't have time, could you help us also in promoting the event? This is also necessary to have more national jury next time.
Thank you in advance.--Alexmar983 (talk) 09:29, 15 October 2017 (UTC)

Crime in Namibia
Hi for Namibian homicide statistics I used the UN data from 2014: https://www.unodc.org/documents/gsh/pdfs/2014_GLOBAL_HOMICIDE_BOOK_web.pdf It seems to me that the article could have a bit more stuff added to it though? Like Namibia is a transit route from/to South Africa, there's probably loads more things we could add to make it a good article, what do you think? Fourdots2 (talk) 13:54, 27 November 2017 (UTC)
