A question about a citation

edit

Hello, I'm currently in a dispute with this anonymous editor over a passage from the Futuh al-Habasa you cite in History of the Jews in Ethiopia. I can confirm that the citation is reasonably accurate, but you stated it came from p. 260 of Stenhouse's translation. I have the same exact translation published by Tsehai, but the passage appears on pp. 378f of my copy. I would simply change that detail, except the ISBN of my copy doesn't match the one you provide for that copy. Taking a look at the entries in World Cat, I found Stenhouse's translation listed there with several different IBSNs. (I suspect that there is something wrong with WorldCat's entries, especially as it only reports 2 libraries in North America having a copy of this book; I would expect it is in the collection of at least a dozen libraries. It is that important of a historical source.) Is it possible that you put down the wrong page number? Thank you for your time. -- llywrch (talk) 23:53, 24 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Llywrch Hi, I only had access to the PDF, so I have no doubt in my mind that it is the incorrect page number, apologies if this caused any issues. Just a heads up, that "anonymous editor" your talking to is a banned sockpuppet see[1] and[2]. Socialwave597 (talk) 11:14, 25 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
I understand that problem, having encountered it myself. I'll go ahead & make the changes.
More importantly, that anon is getting on my nerves. -- llywrch (talk) 21:11, 25 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Llywrch He (Gabi838r) goes by the name of "@DestaAmora2648" on Twitter, he's some crazy ethno-fascist who's been wikihounding me for quite some time now, he uses a myriad of different IP addresses which makes it impossible for the admins to block him. But I'd also like to ask you, can you protect the Sahle Selassie article? He's been targeting that page for a long time. Socialwave597 (talk) 22:32, 25 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
I'll look into that. -- llywrch (talk) 20:40, 26 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Fixed image size

edit

Except with very good reason, do not use px (e.g. |thumb|300px), which forces a fixed image width measured in pixels, disregarding the user's image size preference setting. In most cases upright=scaling_factor should be used. Best fix all before its reverted pls see WP:IMAGESIZE.

Images make Wikipedia more informative, accessible, and professional.

In general, when working with images:
DO:
Review the image style guide and use policy.
Give context with captions and alt text.
Try to find at least one image for each article.
Find free images, or create and upload your own.
Clean up images: crop, color-correct, etc.
Use the best file format for each image.
Use objects for scale where helpful.
Place images in the section to which they are related
DON'T:
  Don't upload non-free images.
Don't use images in place of tables or charts.
Don't use images or galleries excessively.
Don't add images that are not relevant.
Don't flip faces, text, or works of art.
  Don't set fixed image sizes.
Don't sandwich text between two images.
Don't refer to images by their placement.
Don't place images too early or at the end of sections.
