Inside the Whale & Miller

edit

Dear Orenburg1 - Noticed your Userpage quote from Henry Miller's Tropic of Cancer. I don't doubt that you have read Orwell's appraisal of Miller's great novel, but if not, here it is. Worth a second reading; Inside the Whale (1940)

@CerroFerro: Hi CerroFerro - Thank you for so thoughtfully providing the link to Orwell's essays. I had not seen Orwell's comments on the novel before and have just read them with great interest. There are some other Orwell essays in the link I have not seen before either so I shall read those as well.

Re: Aztec High School shooting

edit

Hi, you recently tagged Aztec High School shooting as having a dead link for this URL. As you can see, the link works fine. I will, however, add an archival link. I think what might have happened is that due to the weekend, network admins often schedule routine maintenance and down time, particularly on Sundays. I've had to hold off tagging articles for dead links on the weekends due to this reason. Just something I thought you might want to know since it's happened to me. It's also probably something we should add to the tagging guideline. Thanks, again. Viriditas (talk) 21:42, 27 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Let me know if this works for you. Viriditas (talk) 21:48, 27 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
On second thought, looking at the wider set of edits, did you try to correct spelling instead and accidentally insert the dead links template? Just trying to figure it out. Thanks. Viriditas (talk) 21:51, 27 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Viriditas:Hi Viriditas - thanks for your considerate post. I marked the link as a dead link as it gave me a "site can’t be reached" message, as does the link you included in your post on my talk page and the link in the WP article as of now. When I get these I do not usually immediately tag them as a dead link, unless it is a 404 message or similar, but wait a while (in this instance a couple of days), in case it is as you say a maintenance issue or something with my host or the target host. I do not know why the link does not work for me.
The archival link works fine. Thanks.
Yes I was looking at the spelling of Mintues but must have inadvertently hit sp on the drop down menu instead of dead link. If the third party spelling is incorrect I do not alter it so as not to change an external record - in this case it says Minutes so I have corrected it in the article.
The tagging guidelines could probably do with a review.
Regards.Orenburg1 (talk) 11:20, 28 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
Wonderful. Thanks for your patience and explanation. Viriditas (talk) 19:50, 28 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Prophecy, prophesied, prophecied

edit

I see you are changing prophecises to prophesises on multiple pages. I think both forms are wrong. Certainly in British English (which many of these pages are using) it should be prophesies. Hello Orenburg1!

  • The New Pages Patrol is currently struggling to keep up with the influx of new articles needing review. We could use a few extra hands to help.
  • We think that someone with your activity and experience is very likely to meet the guidelines for granting.
  • Reviewing/patrolling a page doesn't take much time, but it requires a strong understanding of Wikipedia’s CSD policy and notability guidelines.
  • Kindly read the tutorial before making your decision, and feel free to post on the project talk page with questions.
  • If patrolling new pages is something you'd be willing to help out with, please consider applying here.

Thank you for your consideration. We hope to see you around!

Calathea article edits reverted

edit

Hello I noticed that you reverted my edits of accepted Calathea taxa. Your comment on your edit says "Rmv unsourced edits by banned user".

  • I am not a banned user.
  • I sourced my edits of accepted Calathea taxa using the 2023 edition of Plants of the World Online.

Please check the current list of Calathea on POWO yourself. You will see there is no Calathea jerome, C. louisae, C. orbifolia, C. picturata, or C. zebrina. These should not be listed here. Please undo your revert of my edit. BlakeALee (talk) 01:12, 16 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

@BlakeALee:Hi BlakeALee - my apologies for the inadvertent reversion of your edits.
I was actually trying to revert edits by User:Nepenthes1001 who earlier created a lot :of chaos with their edits. Every now and then I try to clean up a bit of the mess but screwed up myself this time - I am a human being and make mistakes sometimes. Should be fixed now.Orenburg1 (talk) 08:05, 16 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Ok, I understand. Thanks for fixing it! :) BlakeALee (talk) 09:43, 16 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom 2024 Elections voter message

edit

Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2024 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:25, 19 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
