Information icon  Hello, I'm SunDawn. I wanted to let you know that I reverted one of your recent contributions—specifically this edit to Dave McCartney—because it did not appear constructive. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you have any questions, you can ask for assistance at the Help desk. Thanks. SunDawn (talk) 03:59, 1 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hello Sundawn, thanks for your advice. I am new to this, haven't a clue how anything works, actually thought I could email someone and they'd edit it, I do family research and I'm stickler for thorough research being done, so thought I'd correct the information published! I give up, the information can stay incorrect! JintyH (talk) 04:26, 1 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
hello there, it seems to me that contributing to wikipedia has been frustrating for you, so here is some hints to making constructive contributions to wikipedia:
  1. when editing wikipedia it is important to provide a reliable source for any information such as a book or website you used in your research, otherwise it will be removed. see for a helpful guide
  2. if you are unsure about an edit or someone reverts it please disscuss it in the talk page of the article. see Help:Talk pages for more info.
  3. if you have a relationship with the subject of an article your editing that may constitute a conflict of interest which needs to be disclosed and managed carefully. see Wikipedia:Plain and simple conflict of interest guide
  4. if you need help or have any questions, feel free to ask in my talk page or at the wp:teahouse
thank you, Serprinss (talk) please ping on reply. 04:53, 1 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
Thank you Serprinss, Yes, very frustrating, not computer literate, therefore I've decided I'm bowing out and leaving the information incorrect. JintyH (talk) 05:05, 1 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
it is just as important to me that the imformation on wikipedia is correct. so if you can provide a book or website confirming that Dave & John are not related i would be happy to help. thank you Serprinss (talk) please ping on reply. 05:15, 3 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Very kind of you Serprinns. Thank you. As far as I know there are no books. I can tell you about them but don’t know where you’d be able to view/link data needed. All Scottish births/marriages/deaths have to be paid for through Scotland’s people, however David McCartney died in Australia, as did his younger brother John. There is a free web page, Australian newspapers, Trove.au. Both their obituaries are on there. As are some interviews. I have thoroughly researched this family, as I have a photo of Barnsley FC with Daves brother William James and John McCartney(manager)is also in it, 100% not related, as I’ve went back a few generations with Scotland’s people. Thanks again.

Serprinns....After thinking 🤔. You can search deaths in Australia, familyhistory.bmd.gov.au for John McCartney who died 1956. Familyhistory.bdm.nsw.au for David Thompson McCartney 1949, this will confirm parents names. I just haven’t a clue how to edit/link/upload/computer jargon. Sorry. I can also tell you, John MCCartney(manager) had a son, Willie McCartney, he was a football manager/referee, and on Wikipedia. David’s younger brother John McCartney(Australia)had a daughter, stage name Nan Kenway, of double act Kenway & Young, they are on Wikipedia. Again, family photos, stories, pen & paper research. Hope this helps in a small way. JintyH (talk) 10:48, 3 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

I managed to find some references for David's history which I added to his article as evidence of his origins. The website which claimed that John McCartney was his brother no longer says so, and it is clear that the information you have passed is correct, therefore I've removed the claim from both articles. Hope this is better news on this front. Crowsus (talk) 16:03, 18 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
