a cappella

edit

I'd be happy to see you adding quality, well-referenced articles about a cappella to wikipeida. My main concern with the articles I have been nominating for deletion has been that the articles were derivative of the information available on the group's websites or written from the personal experience of the members rather than from independent published sources. As for specific sources (and there's no reason you need to consider my opinion authoritative), I would prefer that you not cite sources like IMDb and personal webistes, although the game credits are obviously reasonable. Published sources (either books or periodicals) are of course the most prefered. Savidan 22:08, 27 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

speedy tags

edit

You should not remove speedy deletion tags from articles you have created yourself. The hangon tag was the appropriate choice. A good read would be the criteria for speedy deletion, which gives the various reasons an article can be deleted quickly from Wikipedia. It's possible that the other editor will still nominate the article for deletion under the articles for deletion process, which is a five-day, open discussion about the status of the article. AfD's can have a variety of outcomes between keep and delete, including keep with caveats, merge, redirect, etc.

That said, the other editor's point that the article is currently mostly unsourced is an important one. I would suggest trying to find reliable sources about this person to flesh out the article. One English language source would probably be appreciated by other editors, especially if this article is nominated for deletion. Although I'm not aware of any requirement that sources be in English, that does not mean that such a requirement does not exist. Natalie 23:32, 27 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, I should have actually checked the page history - for some reason I thought you had created the page. In that case, it is acceptable to remove the speedy tag, but I think it's considered polite to give a reason on the talk page (unless it's an incredibly obvious bad faith speedy nom) or possibly get in touch with the person who tagged it and explain your reasoning. WoW Glider

edit

I heard about it on The Instance Podcast (TheInstance.net) who have GM's who supply them with leaked information, however that's sketchy. But they said they read about it on WoW Insider. Let me do a bit of research for a sec. Maurauth 17:57, 5 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yeah that appears so now, I thought it was fishy, but the show was released on the 3rd of April, not the first. Maurauth 18:06, 5 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

stop putting a speedy deletion on my article you moron. Are you so smug and self important that you have to tag everything you dont understand? The Pleasuredrome is London's premier gay sauna and I'm in the midst of documenting it. I would appreciate it if you would leave the page be. [[Pearcedolan]]

Hi, JavaTenor, and welcome to WikiProject
San Francisco Bay Area
!

We are a growing community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to identifying, categorizing, and improving articles relevant to the Bay Area. Here are some points that may be helpful:

  • Our main aim is to help improve Bay Area-related articles, so if people ask for help with an article, please try your hardest to help them if you are able.
  • Most important discussions take place on the project's main discussion page. It is highly recommended that you watchlist it.
  • The project has several ongoing and developing activities, such as article quality assessment, which you are welcome to participate.
  • Our system for improving lower-quality articles is Jumpaclass. If you'll be editing stub, start, or B-class articles, consider using Jumpaclass to track your progress.
  • If you have another language besides English, please consider adding yourself to our translation section, to help us improve our foreign Bay Area topics.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask on the talk page, and we will be happy to help you.

Again, welcome! We hope you enjoy working on this project.

That's really odd for a U.S. District Court to be claiming copyright in anything. Agencies of the U.S. Government aren't supposed to do that. In any case, we shouldn't ever cut-and-paste from other sources, even if there's no copyright issue, for reasons of style and formatting if nothing else. About radical values environmentalism

edit

The text in this article appeared in a philosophy article about values. It was clearly (to me, at least) way off-topic. It addressed none of the standard philosophical issues. So, I placed it in a separate article, linked from the philosophy article. It might be better merged into something about environmentalism, gaia, or something like that. The whole thing well-predated the current Wikipedian fashion of wanting references, so there was no articulable reason for deletion at the time. So, briefly, if you make it a candidate for deletion, it's no problem for me. Ray Van De Walker 18:14, 9 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

So, come and join us! Add your input to the last few business items and then let's get this party started!

I'll create a subpage for you at User:JavaTenor/Admin coaching. We can also communicate via e-mail, if that's what you'd prefer. Since we both live in California, it'll probably be easier to communicate on Wiki anyway. Lucy's commercial

edit

What most editors who support TTN's actions are looking for would be dfor you to take all those great references from the talk page of the article, and compose a couple of paragraphs using the real-world information within them to discuss the influences of the scene. All those articles seen to talk about the episode from the outside. Instead of, 'Then lucy did this, then this, then Ricky got upset', They talk about Ball's comedic performance, her timing, and so on. If you write about that, about the effect her style of comedy and presentation of the scene had on later comedians, comediennes, and sitcom production, then you'd be establishing notability. You got the sources, now you need to use them. ThuranX (talk) 01:08, 30 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

That's the plan; I just haven't gotten around to it yet, so I've left it as a redirect until I have a chance to rewrite the article JavaTenor (talk) 16:58, 30 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Keeping this part, about what you needed to know about what to do next, can stay here on talk. the actual 'how does this idea look' and back and forth about the actual added text, can go on the article talk page. I will add it to my watchlist now, and will know if you are posting stuff and editing the page. As for your time and schedule, no worries, real life is always more important. Ringo Star

edit

Thanks kindly for the notice, but you've made a mistake. I didn't create the article you're trying to delete -- I only created the page called Ringo Star as a redirect to Ringo Starr. You may want to send a note to the actual creator instead, since I have no opinion at all on the article, though if you do end up deleting it I ask that you remember to recreate it as a convenience redirect to the actual Ringo's article. regards — Dan | talk 17:01, 9 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Ah, I see that now; apologies for bothering you with the Twinkle auto-message. It appears to have been redirected already, which is a reasonable result in my opinion. JavaTenor (talk) 02:45, 12 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia Campus Ambassador needed

edit

Hi! My name is Annie Lin - I'm the Campus Team Coordinator at the Wikimedia Foundation. I'm contacting you because you're listed as a resident of San Francisco, and we're currently looking for a friendly Wikipedian to teach students in a University of San Francisco class how to use/edit Wikipedia. This is a role titled the "Wikipedia Campus Ambassador," and you'll basically be doing in-class presentations about Wikipedia, running Wikipedia labs/workshops, and in general providing face-to-face Wikipedia help for the professor and the students in the class. The time commitment is about 3-5 hours a week (with variations throughout the semester), and for this particular University of San Francisco class, most of the workload will be between March and May.

Please let me know if you're interested!

Little Fatty

edit

Hi! I read your comments a while ago about Little Fatty and other "unwilling internet phenomena"

Since Little Fatty has grown to accept his role in an internet meme and freely engaged in interviews about it, and because he has now become a celebrity in China, I chose to re-establish a standalone article for him. He hired an individual as his agent and made a choice to become a public figure and promote himself.

From my understanding Star Wars Kid does not mention the kid's name because the kid never liked what happened to him, never interviewed about it, became extremely angry, and took legal action against other parties.

In the case of Little Fatty the kid grew to accept his role in an internet meme, discussed when he liked the photoshop touches and when he didn't, and even became a movie star.

This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment.
