Block

edit

Right. Firstly, blocks are preventative, not punitive, and "indefinite" does not mean "forever". But you are going to need to make a few adjustments before you are unblocked. To begin with, you are going to need to suggest a new username, one which reflects you as an individual, not as a bot, and definitely not as a group or organisation. You can check the one you'd like against this list to make sure it's not already taken, and put it within this template on your talk page: {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} You are also going to need to stop sending unsolicited messages en masse to dozens of users, because they're not going to find it endearing. Requested username:

Request reason:

I apologize. For one, my real life nickname has been devbot for most of my life - it has nothing to do with web bots. Two, I did not intend to spam anyone - I simply selected 30 or so established users and sent them messages about reviewing an article draft for me. I didn't think that was against protocol in this community. You can google me - I am dedicated human rights activist in Phoenix, Arizona. I founded the People against Sheriff Joe Arpaio Facebook page. I am a very real person who just was feeling overwhelmed by the Wikipedia format and went looking for help. I am sorry to have caused any sort of problem.

Accept reason:

Allowing username change to requested username. Please put this request in at Wikipedia:Changing username as soon as possible to avoid re-blocking. As you agreed to the conditions required, I've unblocked you. You are welcome to ask for help with your article (and very much encouraged to, it's near impossible to remain neutral on a subject you're close to, like your own band), just please tone down the crossposting. There are boards like editor assistance, the help desk, or the teahouse, where your request for help will be seen by many editors. Seraphimblade Talk to me 05:15, 14 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
Thank you. I have decided to change my name to "Devin Michael", which is my more private middle name. Devbot (talk) 05:31, 14 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
You'll need to explain something: you were advised more than once to stop canvassing/spamming. You appear to have removed at least one of those warnings, and simply ignored the others, then spammed another dozen or so. On what planet is this appropriate? I was never advised to stop doing anything. The only person who I had any kind of interaction with was user "WilliamH" and he and I responded back and forth about the article, but he didn't even say anything to me about spam. To be honest I am quite confused by the whole thing. Devbot (talk) 12:02, 12 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

I don't bite

edit

Your posts are considered spam here but I can see why you attempted it. I used to deliver resumes to every electrical contractor in town to get work. The one that hired me first called it something similar to spam and I responded that it worked because he hired me. There are many notice boards like the Tea House and help desk that can help you find editors. You should only post in 1-2 of those or they will chew you for cross posting. As to the name change, could the spelling be changed a little? DevBaught, DevBought, DevBaut, etc? I don't know if the case matters, but DevBoT may be acceptable. When I first saw JimboOnline say something to me it scared the heck out of me, but it was allowed.--Canoe1967 (talk) 21:15, 12 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

I am fine with using my real name "Devin Fleenor" on here, it makes sense to me. I am also willing to be FAR more conservative with posting requests for help on here - I appreciate your candor. Devbot (talk) 21:33, 12 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
Thank you, and welcome to wikipedia.--Canoe1967 (talk) 08:43, 14 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
