I'm getting ready to contribute a Biography of Living Person article. The person in question has done a lot of work in the management consulting and social entrepreneurship. I wanted to know how to properly site the sources to both in the 'References and External Links' section and throughout the entire article. I read that YouTube links aren't really encouraged. In my case though it would really help to validate some of the claims made in the article.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

- Welcome to Wikipedia. For how to cite sources, see WP:Referencing for beginners. The trouble with Youtube is that anyone can put anything there. Wikipedia likes WP:Reliable sources which have some kind of editorial control - more detail at WP:Identifying reliable sources.
- I suggest that, rather than post an article directly, you click on Help:Userspace draft and fill in the title. That will make a draft page where you can develop the article, with a link to send it, when it is ready, to WP:Articles for creation where an experienced user will review it and either accept it or give you advice on how to improve it.
- Check out (if you haven't already) WP:Biographies of living persons and WP:Notability (people). Regards, JohnCD (talk) 10:24, 13 January 2016 (UTC)

Citing Magazines via PDF

If I have several magazine articles in the form PDFs which are very helpful for establishing notability of a living person, but are not anywhere online, how can I best upload them? Thanks!
Alice Ananian (talk) 17:07, 14 February 2016 (UTC)
- Uploading those PDFs would likely be a copyright violation. Instead of uploading them, provide enough bibliographical details to allow our readers to look up those magazine articles in a library archive (name of the magazine, exact publication date, title of the article, page number, author, ...). Sources are not required to be available online. Huon (talk) 17:40, 14 February 2016 (UTC)
- (e./c) Hi Alice. You would not. Doing so would very likely be a copyright violation unless they are explicitly released under a suitably free copyright license or are in the public domain. We do not require that sources cited in articles be Online. indeed, many of the best sources in the world are not, e.g. in paper books. See WP:SOURCEACCESS, Wikipedia:Offline sources and Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Cost. Note however, that you can only use published sources to verify content – it must be possible for someone to retrieve such sources if they want to, for example, in a library. Problems with upload of File:2013 Ответственность за будущее.pdf
editThanks for uploading File:2013 Ответственность за будущее.pdf. You don't seem to have said where the image came from, who created it, or what the copyright status is. We require this information to verify that the image is legally usable on Wikipedia, and because most image licenses require giving credit to the image's creator.

editHi, I saw that you undid my adding the orphan tag at the top of the page. Note that it's a useful maintenance tag that reminds editors to add links to your new article so it will be more visible. See Special:WhatLinksHere/Avetik Chalabyan. Currently, I do not see any links from other articles to your article, which means that it will have far less visibility. On other pages, add links to your article where appropriate, and then should the tag be removed. Just a friendly message. — Andy W. (talk · contrib) 14:23, 27 April 2016 (UTC)
- Actually, I added links to your article from Yerevan and its state university, so I undid the tag. Cheers, and happy editing — Andy W. (talk · contrib) 14:58, 27 April 2016 (UTC)

Article up for deletion - tips for editing
editHi All,
I've noticed that the Avetik Chalabyan article is up for deletion. I've reviewed the policies. Will try to go back and edit the texts so they are completely neutral in tone, however, really would appreciate feedback on how to improve the article and avoid deletion.
Thanks!
- Hi Alice, the best way is to find references to Chalabyan in other "reliable sources", such as books, news articles, journals, etc., possibly in relation to the Arar Foundation or other things he is involved in. These could be in non-English languages. I did find this article on Horizon Armenian weekly's Canadian website. All the best, Facts707 (talk) 15:23, 8 October 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for the tip!
