About Me
My background on Wikimedia is fairly unexciting. I first started editing in February 2006: my first edits from this account essentially mark the start of my editing career: I have rarely deliberately edited as an IP. I became a bot operator in 2007, an admin in 2008, and was an oversighter from 2009 to 2011. Along the way I discovered an interest in template coding and 'backstage' work. Notwithstanding that, I have made occasional substantial article contributions.
Since 2009 I began to take more interest in the MediaWiki software itself, filing a number of bugs and patches to bugzilla. I held SVN commit access, which allowed me to help develop the MediaWiki software directly. I was an administrator at mediawiki.org, the documentation site for MediaWiki, and I have a few minor rights scattered across a number of projects. I have about 27,000 edits across all projects.
What I do
Although I can be a creative person, and I enjoy writing, I do a lot of grunt or fairy work, as I rarely have the perseverance to complete any major projects. That said, I do have a few green and gold shiny things to my name: I notched up a 75-edit streak on The Colour of Magic (TV film), which made Start → GA. I helped bring List of poker hands to FL, Wicked (musical) to GA, and Emma Watson to FA. I mainly work with templates on Wikipedia: I designed or help design the Requests listing system for the late League of Copyeditors, the complete overhaul of the CSD template system around {{Db-meta}}
, the {{pp-meta}}
and {{WPBannerMeta}}
meta-templates for page protection and WikiProject banners. I regularly patrol Category:Protected edit requests and Category:Candidates for speedy deletion, am active on Templates for deletion, and consider myself an expert template coder. Most importantly for the encyclopedia, however, I can never resist the urge to edit any page I happen to visit which looks like it needs it :D.
New articles
I rarely create new articles - we have enough of those already.
