This is a very simplistic algorithm so the output should be previewed and the template usually be substituted in the article namespace. It should not be used to implement Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Capital letters. Most obviously, it ignores proper nouns. Although the algorithm is based on United States Government Printing Office manual §3.49, the pink rows in the following table are §3.49 examples which the template output does not match.
