Article Quality

edit

Two problems, really; The writing is BAD, as if written by a clever child. What is written betrays only the barest recognition of Sammo's lifetime of work in Hong Kong. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 131.215.115.31 (talk) 16:21, 6 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Filmography

edit

Shouldn't he have a filmography too?

Someone made one. I added Directing credits when possible.

Birthday

edit

However, IMDb lists his birthday as January 7, 1952. This article says "born 1950." Which is correct? --Feitclub 16:05, Nov 1, 2004 (UTC)

it says sometime in the 1800's now... gotta be slightly wrong

English by rote

edit

"Reportedly he recited his English dialogue by rote." - Where is the reference for this? --Toric

WHAT THE HELL?!

edit

The picture that is in the article couldn't possibly be Sammo Hung, looks more like Marilyn Manson Bananas 11:46, 20 June 2007 (UTC) shout at me for doing wrong!Reply

Are you talking about the grayscale photo of him holding up his fist and staring into the camera? If so, you need to get your eyes checked. Besides the obvious ethnic differences, there is also the matter of half a foot and 50 pounds. —Preceding unsigned comment added by ghostexorcist (talkcontribs)
It was just IP vandalism. Dude switched the picture over to one of a guy named "Dead", former lead singer of a Norwegian death metal band for some unknown reason. Ghostexorcist, you need to learn to check diffs before getting righteously indignant; Supreme_Bananas' post was over a month before yours and he had already replaced the image.

Why am I doing detective work on 6-month-old (and completely unimportant) talk page semantics on an article I've never read and don't particularly care about? I really don't know. Perhaps it's the lack of sleep. Good day. Bullzeye (Ring for Service) 11:37, 15 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Film Production

edit

I've added in the releases by Hung's two production companies, Bo Ho and Bojon. I figured they should go in this article, as I don't have enough information about either company to make new articles. Most of this information is available in the Hong Kong Cinemagic database (http://www.hkcinemagic.com). Some of it appears to be in disagreement with iMDB, but I believe this is because if iMDB shows any "company information" at all for these films, it shows distribution rather than production companies. Presumably all Bo Ho-produced films were distributed by Golden Harvest in HK (and perhaps some of the Bojon-produced films too).

Going by the release dates, it's perhaps a little odd that Bojon started in 1989, but the last Bo Ho film was released in 1992. Did the 2 companies really operate at the same time? I know Sammo left Golden Harvest in 1991, so you'd think Bo Ho would have folded then, and Bojon would have started. Maybe the later Bo Ho films were produced but not yet released when he left GH.

Anyway, any further info on these would be good, so we could give the 2 production companies articles of their own. Gram123 09:40, 12 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Weight

edit

I find it impossible for a "normal" overweight person to do martial arts with such agility and not lose the weight. There's got to be something more to it than just him liking to eat, perhaps glandular or something? If anyone knows, I think it would be a fair contribution to the article.--76.216.63.33 (talk) 03:52, 26 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

---- Your finding it impossible would be original research if it involved any research. The right answer is the simple one:
           you're wrong.
The line in the article which explains it, is pretty much all we've got at present:
"Shortly after leaving the Academy at the age of 16, Hung suffered an injury that left him bedridden for an extended period, during which time his weight ballooned."
Beyond this I haven't seen any more specific information of what the injury was, or why he maintained the weight. On numerous commentaries Bey Logan has mentioned that Sammo does indeed like his food, and speculation elsewhere says it may be a genetic predisposition, but no confirmed facts. Additionally, prior to filming Eastern Condors, Sammo lost a lot of weight by living on a diet of just chicken (taken from his interview on that DVD), as he thought an overweight soldier would be inappropriate. However, after the film he gradually went back to his usual weight / size. Gram123 (talk) 10:36, 7 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Scar

edit

I think that the scar on his upper lip is a mark of cleft lip surgery. Can someone check on this? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.185.235.242 (talk) 10:46, 17 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

It's not. The scar is the result of having the end of a broken coke bottle shoved into his face during a fight when he was a teenager. Sammo himself explains this in a interview on the Hong Kong Legends Eastern Condors DVD. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.124.84.10 (talk) 19:46, 23 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Third paragraph in intro

edit

There are three paragraphs in the intro, but the third is dedicated to this "big brother" stuff which is so minor. Why is that important enough to be in the intro? It should be moved. 70.173.177.190 (talk) 17:46, 9 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

I can't be bothered to find an English source, but Hung and his ex-wife never trained together any form of martial arts. He met his wife at a hotel in Korea whilst he was filming. I think the story goes something along the line of Hung falling in love with a hotel employee and proposing. If anyone would like to look up a source for this information and edit the article accordingly, feel free to do so.

Also, relating to Hung's weight, Jacky Chan has noted several times that Sammo enjoyed eating from a very young age and that's he's been "overweight and unable to run" as long as Jacky's known him. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.236.24.137 (talk) 16:34, 1 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

in the section where it mentions how he is called big brother, it also claims that he is called "big yellow cawk"...this seems to be a childish play on words and euphemism. Can someone please edit this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 206.53.70.162 (talk) 19:29, 26 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
