shell scripts
editWhat everyone else calls "shell scripts" Bourne calls "shell procedures". And since he wrote the shell, that is what I call them too. -- Geo Swan 04:13, 2005 May 1 (UTC)
Funny story
editDr. Bourne left Bell Labs and moved to Silicon Graphics, but so did another Steven Bourne. If you called SGI and asked for Dr. Bourne, they would say "Which Dr. Bourne?"
"Steven Bourne" - - "Which Steven Bourne?"
"Steven R. Bourne" - - "Which Steven R. Bourne?"
"Steven R. Bourne from Bell Labs" - - "Which Steven R. Bourne from Bell Labs?"
"The software guy" - - "Oh, OK I'll connect you."

editThere seems to be confusion over whether his name is Stephen or Steven. I wrote him and he just responded to confirm that its Stephen Bourne. -- Suso (talk) 14:53, 22 May 2012 (UTC)
