First white woman in New York
editAn oft repeated claim is that Gardiner's daughter was the first white woman in New York. A correction on the article posted today notes Sarah Rapelyea in Albany, New York, was the first white woman. I googled it and found confirmation. I'm taking off the sentence. Historical inaccuracy of the Reinhart drawing
editI suspect that the Reinhart drawing is highly inaccurate from a historical point of view and this should either be stated in the caption or the picture removed. Showing Gardiner in a Spanish morion attacking an indian conflicts with my impression of him, which is that he spent the time during the war as commander of the Saybrook fort. He did not at any time, as far as I know, go out on patrols or attacks on indians, and my understanding is that he had very good relations with the indians. Depicting him in Spanish armor is also, I think inaccurate. Also, Gardiner was known to be a very large man and in the drawing he is shorter than everyone else. — Preceding unsigned comment added by John Chamberlain (talk • contribs) 17:29, 22 October 2013 (UTC)
