editIs it Industrial Light & Magic or Industrial Light + Magic? Both are used in the article. Consistency would be better. MaxVeers 17:35, 7 January 2006 (UTC)
- According to the official website, its either Industrial Light & Magic or ILM
---
Both are correct. I've even seen it written with the and, though rarely. The & is more common in text while the + is more common when used in logos and graphics. So I guess the & would be more appropiate in the article (though other things really need more attention.
Even Rhythm and Hues now also uses +.

- I hardly ever seen it written as anything other than Industrial Light & Magic, I'll move the article to the apporiatly. The Filmaker 00:48, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
Pixar history
editThe group that later became Pixar was a division of Lucasfilm, but separate from ILM. The Pixar group did contribute some visual effects for ILM, of course, including the stained glass man in Sherlock Holmes and the Genesis effect. ILM formed its own computer graphics division, headed by Doug Kay and George Joblove, around the time that Pixar was sold to Steve Jobs, and retaining much of the group's technology, but not the personnel. Details on this history can be found in Michael Rubin's 2005 book DroidMaker.
Quotes
editOne quote here - "You can't spell film without ILM" listed as having an "Unknown source"
Removed section. This quote sounds like it could be a company slogan, and I personally feel it is a really neat quote, but without a source it really does not belong here. If a source is found, and it is such that it makes the quote appropriate (i.e. it really is a company slogan, or perhaps something like a quote from Lucas), feel free to put it back. Oscars
editThe article says they have won 16, but this PDF on their website says POTC 2 was their 15th:

I wonder where the erronious one has come from... —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 87.127.79.8 (talk) 00:02:05, August 19, 2007 (UTC)
Milestones
editThe article on motion control states that the first use was in 2001 and A New Hope is simply the first LARGE SCALE use. Yet neither are sourced. SteveCoppock (talk) 19:43, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
Pixar
editThe Pixar error (noted above) should be fixed by someone who is knowledgeable. As it stands it's clearly erroneous because it seems to say there's currently no "computer graphics department" at ILM. Tempshill (talk) 05:31, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
THX 1138
editThe "ILM Selected Filmography" section starts off with THX-1138 (1971), whereas ILM was founded in 1975, connected to Star Wars (1977). That seems odd. There is no mention of ILM in the THX-1138 page nor is there any explanation of this. It has been reassigned to the year 2004 for it's re-release.
ILM did the CGI for the 2004 version which can be verified via ILM's website. Rayayala17 (talk) 03:57, 21 February 2014 (UTC)
The Last Airbender
editIsn't this company signed on to provide CGI for 'The Last Airbender' films by M Night Shyamalan? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 4.233.126.65 (talk) 10:36, 20 March 2009 (UTC)
Anime and Voice Acting
editI cannot think of a single anime I've seen that does not give credits to ILM. I know ADV, Funimation, Bandai, and Genon/Pioneer all use ILM for their voice actors. Also, many other (professional) animation that's done outside of ILM is still voiced there. In fact, it's by far the biggest studio voice actors perform in. Yet, there is no credit on this page to that fact. Psydude (talk) 01:07, 24 March 2009 (UTC)
Wow, I never knew. Should I edit that into the article?
BTW, I added all of the movies that the company did.Philipnova798 (talk) 21:48, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
2012 issue
editSomebody keeps adding the 2012 movie onto the list. When it has been confirmed everywhere else that they didn't do it. Why? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Philipnova798 (talk • contribs) 21:34, 4 January 2010 (UTC)
a management-led team bought
editDoes this mean they are no longer part of ILM? Is there a name for this new group of companies? Any more info anyone? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.194.30.115 (talk) 16:49, 18 February 2010 (UTC)
Falsified entries into filmography
editA user called Xeworlebi keeps adding fake information to the filmography. He keeps on adding "Enthiran" to the filmography even when it has been confirmed by ILM's official site, imdbs "enthiran" and "ilm" page and numerous other articles and trade source that ILM has not worked on enthiran. Xeworlebi has been warned several times but keeps on vandalizing the article. Can anyone please get the administrators attention and prevent Xeworlebi from making unverifiable changes? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 123.236.187.252 (talk) 04:23, 24 January 2011 (UTC)
- This has two sources at Enthiran, I'll copy them over here. Stop removing sourced information. You have now made personal and legal threats against me. Xeworlebi (talk) 12:39, 24 January 2011 (UTC)
- ILM conclusively did not work on this film; consult the Enthiran discussion page Riotnrrd (talk) 21:41, 30 June 2011 (UTC)
About The Nutcracker (1993)
editI have corrected the link but I haven't found info about this movie, so I'm not sure if is correct ValterVB (talk) 12:08, 29 December 2011 (UTC)

Men in Black III
editWhy is MIB3 keep on getting remove? They work on the first two films and most likely return on the 3rd film 173.79.16.19 (talk) 19:19, 7 February 2012 (UTC)
Sony Pictures Imageworks provided the majority of the visual effects and animation to MIB3 among other visual effects companies. Just supplying some information here. I'm not clever enough to alter the actual Wikipedia pages, so I'll leave that to those who know how. ILM was just bought along with the rest of LucasFilm by Disney — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.232.189.211 (talk) 00:25, 31 October 2012 (UTC)
Spaceballs and World War Z
editSomeone keeps adding Spaceballs and World War Z to the filmography when it's been confirmed by ILM's website they never worked on either of them. I keep removing the erroneous entries but they keep showing up. ILM hasn't updated their website in years but another good website to confirm ILM didn't work on World War Z is fxguide.com.(talk) 03:06, 20 February 2014 (UTC)
- ILM has a credit in the closing credits of "Spaceballs". They created the Alien creature in the dinner just as they did in the film "Aliens". JOJ Hutton 14:22, 20 February 2014 (UTC)
Will it be alright if I put in parentheses (creature effects only)? Rayayala17 (talk) 04:10, 21 February 2014 (UTC)
World War Z did have a small bit of involvement from ILM as Scott Farrar joined very late into the production, when the third act had to be totally rewritten and ILM was mentioned in the end credits as "additional visual effects supervision by" — Preceding unsigned comment added by MOVIEFAN2001 (talk • contribs) 22:29, 27 January 2021 (UTC)
Television Work
editI added Star Trek TNG to their TV history. I'm not confident which episodes they worked on since my memory is that they would fabricate models and shoot a number of re-usable plates but hand off the day-to-day episodic work to the in-house Paramount-Television team while only coming back on to do specific model shot (which was often then re-used between episodes.) TNG should IMO definitely be included, but I'll leave it to the more experienced moderators on how you want to break out when work was done or even if you want to get that granular.Im.thatoneguy (talk) 18:42, 2 May 2016 (UTC)
Walt Disney change
editI propose to change "Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures" to "Walt Disney Studios" in the Filmography section. For example, "Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc." is also abbreviated to Warner Bros. It only unnecessarily makes rows taller than they need to be. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sandrobost (talk • contribs) 13:39, 30 April 2018 (UTC)
london sites
editILM had at least planned to occupy part of the disney building in chiswick park (opposite discovery's HQ) but this building is now empty (as of mid 2021) with disney's name absent from the address boards both in front of building-12 & at the entrance to the park. anyone know what's going on, besides down-sizing? I think they've reduced occupancy at the hammersmith site too.
Upcoming
editI've seen several IP address have been adding the "Upcoming Spongebob Spin-Off Movie", the thing is that it's only been announced through the Paramount Investor Day back in February 2022 https://variety.com/2022/tv/news/spongebob-squarepants-spinoff-movies-dora-the-explorer-live-action-series-paramount-plus-1235182693/. There's been no release date, or director or anything else confirmed.
Can we please not have that in the upcoming section please. Please only add films if it's mentioned on ILM's official website or social media accounts, ArtOfVFX and Linkedin accounts for the ILM artists. Aswell as the movie's social media page if they mention any ILM members a good example is Christopher McQuarrie's Instagram post of Alex Wuttke for Mission 7 and 8, which is technically proof saying that ILM is involved.
Please just remember for future edits in the upcoming filmography as some films have yet to be confirmed by ILM if they are working on it. Indiana Jones 5 is a good example we don't know for sure if ILM is working on it — Preceding unsigned comment added by MOVIEFAN2001 (talk • contribs) 08:24, 24 March 2022 (UTC)
ILM Art Department
editSince Fantastic Beasts The Crimes Of Grindewald onto the filmography list (which only has the ILM Art Department), should we just add movies that just the ILM Art Department has worked on e.g. Ad Astra, Godzilla King Of The Monsters, Pacific Rim Uprising and The Tomorrow War.
Besides the ILM Art Department ILM has their stagecraft have other movies they've worked on that aren't listed on here from 2006-2021 ranging from ILM, Art Department, Stagecraft including A Boy Called Christmas, Godmothered, Antebellum, The Hunger Games, Fast Furious Tokyo Drift, Project Power, The Kissing Booth 2, Irresistible, Welcome To Marwen, Nutcracker and the Four Realms, The BFG, Selma, Surrogates, Jonas Brothers 3D, Touching Home and The Love Guru.
If the filmography is showing 99 percent of their film works should this be a complete list of every film they've worked on regardless.

New Logo
editSo ILM has got a new logo, but no-one has seemed to upload it onto here MOVIEFAN2001 (talk) 23:36, 6 June 2023 (UTC)
Blue Beetl
editILM never worked on Blue Beetle it was fake credits added on IMDB because anybody can edit and add stuff on there which made ArtofVFX believe it was real. I have seen Blue Beetle and the credits don't credit ILM MOVIEFAN2001 (talk) 23:07, 6 May 2024 (UTC)
