Lebanese River - POV

edit

The river flows in both Lebanon and Israel. It also forms part of the Lebanon-Israel border. As such, it is both a Lebanese river, and an Israeli one. Compare with Tigris - it is not defined as a "Turkish River", though its sources are wholly within Turkey, but rather as a river which "flows from the mountains of southeastern Turkey through Iraq." Instead of the POV phrasing "The Hasbani is a Lebanese river" (or it's counter part POV phrasing 'The Hasbani is an Israeli river'), I have described it factually as a tributary of the Jordan, whose sources are in Lebanon, which flows into Israel. I don't see why you have a problem with that . NoCal100 (talk) 14:19, 3 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Johnston Plan

edit

Ceedjee, the material you have re-added to the article does not appear in the source you are citing. NoCal100 (talk) 15:18, 18 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

What does the source actually say? It might be helpful to use the "quote" function of the citation template, to quote precise wording from the source. --Elonka 16:47, 18 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
The source says nothing at all about precedents or about existing use. It is available for viewing via Google books here: [1]. I can send you a screen shot of page 189 if you'd like. NoCal100 (talk) 04:28, 19 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the link, I was able to read the page for myself. It does seem to verify the part about "In 1955, US ambassador Johnston negotiated the Jordan Valley Unified Water Plan", but the "important precedent" part does not seem to appear on that page, nor the "existing utilization patterns" part. Perhaps instead of removing the information entirely though, it would have been better to just edit it down to what was actually sourced? Sources are good things, so when there's a reliable source on an article, I am usually loathe to remove it.  :) --Elonka 05:29, 19 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
I have already added the relevant info about the JVUWP, in its proper context, and linked to the new article I created about the JVUWP. NoCal100 (talk) 14:52, 19 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
It's a good article, but I'm not seeing the year in this Hasbani River article, nor the source in the other article? Is there a reason that you do not wish to use the source? Do you feel that it is unreliable? --Elonka 18:41, 19 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
No , I have no problem with the source , nor with the inclusion of the date. Feel free to add that, or maybe I'll get around to it in the next day or so. NoCal100 (talk) 03:24, 20 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
done now. NoCal100 (talk) 18:41, 20 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Origin of the name Snir (Senir) for the stream

I attempted to start a discussion at Talk:Snir#River Snir (Senir): Israeli/Modern Hebrew name?. Contributions please there, but conclusions, if any, should be added to this article. Thanks, Arminden (talk) 11:36, 20 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
