Languages

edit

Since this site is shown in three languages (English, Japanese and Spanish) I would like to know if there is anyone fluent in these languages who could translate the article into these languages onto the respective wikipedia sites. I think that it would be worthwhile in these languages since they are of equal importance on the site.

This page has mainly market reports, news for the global fishing, fish processing and aquaculture industry, including updated market prices. So only a selection of these will be of interest in Wikipedia. --Terje engø (talk) 14:09, 17 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Alexa

edit

I removed the Alexa stuff from the article, it seems a bit pointless having to update it constantly since the link is at the bottom of the page. Also, no other articles about websites contain this kind of information on the article itself. Here are the stats at the moment (note, these are updated weekly):

As at 25 September 2008 most viewers come from the United States of America (21.4%) and the company has an Alexa traffic rank of 293,736. The second highest source of viewers is Mauritania (10.7) where the site is ranked 366 in that country according to traffic rank. Other major users of the site according to Alexa come from Mexico (9.1%), India (6.7%) and Spain (5.6%). The week before (17 September 2008) most users came from Mauritania (22.8%) and the company had an Alexa traffic rank of 306,326. Redgator5 (talk) 01:38, 26 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

A Norwegian article

edit

I have found a Norwegian article from June 2002 I thhink- it is at http://www.aftenposten.no/nyheter/iriks/article351182.ece and a paragraph that mentions the company is:

Ifølge Interfax-meldingen er det sjefen for den statlige fiskerikomitéen, eller fiskeriminister, Jevgenij Nazdratenko, som skal ha bedt Nordflåten i Murmansk om å sende et krigsskip til vernesonen. Det melder nettstedet Fish Information and services. Nazdratenko truet i fjor Norge med militære aksjoner etter at Kystvakten satte den russiske tråleren "Tsjernigov" i arrest i vernesonen.

translating using http://www.translation-guide.com/free_online_translators.php?from=Norwegian&to=English gives

Ifølge Interfax - the announcement is it boss for it statlige fiskerikomitéen , or fiskeriminister Jevgenij Nazdratenko , as do be about have asked NordflÃ¥ten in Murmansk about Ã¥ beam a krigsskip at vernesonen. Facts announce nettstedet Fish Information and services. Nazdratenko intimidated in inlets Norway along with military actions after that Kystvakten put it Russian tråleren Tsjernigov " in prisoner in vernesonen.

Not entirely helpful translation ;) but it seems only a brief mention and no more than an announcement - I don't think it is worth pursuing the translation to see if there is more --Matilda talk 22:53, 1 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Reading the English translation and the article is about Russian war ships to protect Russian fishing boats and isn't anything to support anything in the FIS article as the only thing that has anything about FIS is "The site reports Fish Information and services." Also I wouldn't class anything from China[1] reliable since it's Government run media are known for their spin. Bidgee (talk) 23:11, 1 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
Could we ask a Norwegian wikipedian to translate...since most Scandinavians speak good English anyway. Michellecrisp (talk) 00:22, 2 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Added Re-directs Orphan status

edit

I created two redirect pages. One is fis.com, since many other websites use this redirect (ebay.com). The other is simply Fish Information & Services since I noticed they use the "&" symbol in their logo.--Baina90 (talk) 18:33, 7 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

  • I have found numerous cases of the site being used as a source on Wikipedia. I will add internal links to these sources to improve the orphan status and to also hopefully add further credibility to these sources where they are being used.--Baina90 (talk) 06:06, 2 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
