This is actually a controversial statement - "Earth-One, along with the four other surviving Earths of the DC Multiverse, are merged into one in the 1985 miniseries Crisis on Infinite Earths. " Plenty of people, myself among them do not think it was merged, but take the text itself (along with Infinite Crisis) as evidence that what was done was the prevention of the multiverse in the first place, with a single earth, as before Krona's experiment split it.
