Kissing a painting
editI added this news and the arrest. --Juanatoledo 08:53, 22 July 2007 (UTC)
- Twombly is notorious for producing meaningless scribble that looks like a hamfisted parody of a style that was already looking dated decades ago. But what can you do? He is recognised by some of his peers, and so he should be treated respectfully on Wikipedia. Perhaps a couple of quotes from reputable critics would be in order (negative and positive), simply to demonstrate the divergence of views. Patrick Neylan 20:56, 10 October 2007 (UTC)
- Funny, I can't find any negative critics online — even Google is helpless. How can that be? Anyone making a all-white canvas for $2m should have its critics. Solian en (talk) 15:26, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

- "The Emperor's New Clothes" (Danish: Kejserens nye klæder) is a short tale written by Danish author Hans Christian Andersen, about two weavers who promise an emperor a new suit of clothes that they say is invisible to those who are unfit for their positions, stupid, or incompetent – while in reality, they make no clothes at all, making everyone believe the clothes are invisible to them. When the emperor parades before his subjects in his new "clothes", no one dares to say that they do not see any suit of clothes on him for fear that they will be seen as stupid. Finally a child cries out, "But he isn't wearing anything at all!"

Copyvio?
editTrying to determine if some of the copy here is copyvio (some prose in question). There are lots of hits for very similar phrases. Of note is this. Any insight is appreciated. ./zro (⠠⠵) 02:05, 9 January 2009 (UTC)
- "copyvio"? Is that Wikispeak for something? Is there a reason why English isn't used? It would then be intelligible. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.183.0.167 (talk) 18:53, 21 November 2011 (UTC)
- Absolutely right. There is no such word as 'copyvio' and anyone who thinks that there is shouldn't be contributing to an encyclopaedia. I know that Wikipedia is more of a community mish-mash than an actual encyclopaedia but it should still have standards of basic literacy. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.175.56.70 (talk) 20:27, 16 January 2020 (UTC)
Sexuality
editI am hesitant to add any references to Twombly's homosexuality, but it seems a bit inconsistent to discuss Twombly's romantic involvement with Robert Rauschenberg on the Rauschenberg page and completely ignore it here, particularly because the two artists became sexually involved before Rauscenberg's divorce. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.124.89.116 (talk) 21:16, 27 April 2009 (UTC)
- Added reference with citation. AV3000 (talk) 16:47, 6 July 2011 (UTC)
- So which sneaky person has removed the reference, without explanation? Suggest it is reinstated forthwith, for the reasons originally given. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.183.0.167 (talk) 18:55, 21 November 2011 (UTC)
- Eh? See Work section: "he became a prominent figure among a group of artists including Robert Rauschenberg – with whom he had a relationship[10]". AV3000 (talk) 23:53, 21 November 2011 (UTC)

Any photographs of him In flagrante delicto? Any public statements by Twombly regarding this topic? Any reliable witnesses? Just another baseless Wikipedia innuendo?98.110.67.68 (talk) 22:40, 12 June 2014 (UTC)The Honourable Ronald Adair
Whence the name Twombly?
editDoes anyone have info about the idiosyncratic family name "Twombly" -- especially where it comes from? Thanks, Maikel (talk) 15:40, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
And can somebody who knows please add to the page how to pronounce it? "Two" like "tomb"? So like "womb" or like "Womble"? The last part like "crumbly"? "b" silent or pronounced? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.113.106.24 (talk) 20:11, 7 August 2009 (UTC)

Art Market - the November 12, 2014 auction
editLast night I happened to watch the video documenting the auction sale of November 12, 2014 at Christie's. I thought it was interesting enough to be added as a footnote link to the reference of that record sale in the Art Market paragraph. Thus, because, to my mind, watching it you get the distinct impression that people who attended that auction felt they were witnessing something special (maybe even somewhat unexpected). Unfortunately, my modest editing was swiftly undo, and without any comment. So, instead of starting some sort of editing battle, I shall post the link here, so others could consider whether it can be added back as a footnote link to the main article. Lexington High School/Darlington School?
editThere's no source for the claim Twombly graduated from Lexington High School. I was able to find one, but didn't add it, because it doesn't make sense to me that he only then attended the Darlington School, which is a k-12 college prep school. I think it's an unusual enough claim to require some clarification. 96.38.160.52 (talk) 16:36, 27 December 2022 (UTC)
