Needs complete overhaul. Currently this page is a mish mash of established processes and obscure experimental concepts. Suggest sections as follows:

  • Introduction
% Including distinction from rapid prototyping
  • AM Processes
   % Stereolithography
% Laser sintering / laser melting / laser cusing etc.
   % Electron beam melting etc.
   % Fused deposition modelling
   % Jetting processes
   % Other

Recreating The additive Manufacturing Page

edit

I personally do not like that the additive manufacturing page is automatically redirected to the 3D printing page, although there is a lot of content on the 3D printing page that may pertain to Additive manufacturing they are not entirely the same thing. 3D printing is a form of Additive Manufacturing, but Additive Manufacturing is not solely 3D printing.

I intend to help start the Additive Manufacturing page back up with some basic information in hopes that it will grow over the coming years. Cjputnam1 (talk) 03:46, 14 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

It's not about liking, what's the difference? GliderMaven (talk) 05:00, 14 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Excuse me, I have interjected an opinion to prove a point where I did not need to do so, Additive Manufacturing is the process of creating 3D objects through the addition of materials, this could be any form not solely in a 3D printed form. An example of this would be that Welding is a form of additive manufacturing because you are adding material to create a new 3D object, but in no way is that 3D printing. Yes, I would agree that many aspects of 3D printing and additive manufacturing are the same and they are closely related but to consider them the same thing would be an injustice to this community and its readers.

Organizations who specialize in these topics consider them different and provide definitions for both.
