Miss Wormwood

edit

The article currently says that Miss Wormwood is a creation of modern era comics, and that Miss Wormwood in Calvin and Hobbes is a reference to her. This is clearly wrong. Either Miss Wormwood was in the classic comics, or Ordway named her as a reference to the Watterson character. Does anyone know which of these is the case? (I suspect the latter; the Calvin and Hobbes page says Miss Wormwood was named after the C.S. Lewis character Wormwood.) Daibhid C 17:07, 26 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Whiz-comics-issue-59.jpg

edit

Image:Whiz-comics-issue-59.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

In the Other Media section

edit

The TV references are missing Young Justice and Justice League Unlimited (not 100% sure on the latter, but Cap was prominent in Young Justice.) I'm just at work now and can only leave this note.

Anything specific to Captain Marvel/Shazam himself is discussed in his article. The Other Media section here is only for the appearances of the Family. --FuriousFreddy (talk) 13:49, 3 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

List of villains

edit

Rtkat3 added a section for villains, after the long listicles of Marvel Family villains was deleted. Can we take this opportunity to, rather than duplicate the mistakes of those articles, finesse and balance both the presentation and the content here?

I don't see much upside to listing every single villain who's appeared only once, in one issue of the comics. A more encyclopedic approach would be to only list the significant recurring villains. I will start with a revision reflecting such, and we can build from there. --FuriousFreddy (talk) 13:53, 3 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

When I opposed the AFD for those, I had suggested that the main List of Marvel Family villains page would be redone to match the rogues gallery pages of the other superheroes even if someone restores it to do that. The other villain list pages had sorted the recurring villains from the minor ones. Plus, minor villains like Aunt Minerva, Doctor Allirog, and Night Owl have appeared in The Kid Super Power Hour with Shazam!. --Rtkat3 (talk) 17:58, 3 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
Whether as part of this article or another one, there has to be some level of a cutoff; it's extremely unwieldy to set up the page to where every supervillain who's ever appeared in a Shazam! comic would be listed. Aside from it being an overload of information, it'd take a lifetime to properly list each villain from upwards of 600 comic-book issues. My suggested criteria would be for villains who've appeared at least three times and/or been the key adversaries of important multi-issue arcs. Aunt Minerva easily meets that qualification, and I included her when I did my rewrite. So does Chain Lightning, who wasn't included beforehand.
By comparison, the Hiss-Men, who appeared in one issue of The Marvel Family and an episode of the cartoon adapted from that issue, I would definitely consider beyond the scope of any mention on Wikipedia outside the The Kid Super Power Hour with Shazam! episode descriptions (this encyclopedia does not do comic book, issue-by-issue plot descriptions, probably because there's too many of them). The other example I could thing of is Patty-Patty-bang-Bang, who appear in two issues of The Power of Shazam!, and would also be beyond the scope of this list. --FuriousFreddy (talk) 16:07, 4 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
Night Owl and the Hiss-Men currently have their redirects linking to Marvel Family while Aunt Minerva, Doctor Allirog, and the Crocodile-Men had their redirects deleted during the merge. --Rtkat3 (talk) 18:21, 4 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
None of those characters, except Minerva and the Crocodile-Men, would be covered anywhere on Wikipedia outside of episode descriptions of the Shazam! cartoon show. Mentions of them are otherwise beyond the scope of even this article or the individual Marvel Family character pages on this website. If they needed to redirect anyplace, they should redirect to the cartoon show article, not here. The scope creep (and fancruft issues) inherent in listing those characters here would just make for another unwieldy list, which would be cut down and/or deleted again. --FuriousFreddy (talk) 15:25, 6 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
