Number of competitors

edit

According to the statistics in www.bostonmarathon.org, there were 52 wheelchair starters, and not 53 as stated by the reference in the article, and 23,406 starters in total, and not 24,662 as stated in the article. Am I missing something, or are the references used in the article more reliable than the one I have provided? Coyets (talk) 16:25, 22 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Those numbers are from the reference given[1] and can be corrected, with better sources. Apteva (talk) 18:16, 22 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Lead

edit
  • "The 2013 Boston Marathon was the 117th running of the annual marathon race in Boston, Unites States" - typo; should be United
  • Also, a comma after the word "States" is missing
  • "Lelisa Desisa won the elite men's race with a time of 2:10:22, and Rita Jeptoo won the women's race with a time of 2:26:25." - repetition of "race"
  • "Hiroyuki Yamamoto won the men's wheelchair race in 1:25:32 and Tatyana McFadden won the women's race in 1:45:25." - same issue as above
  • "The competition became suspended and many participants were unable to participate in the remainder of the competition." - repetition of "participate"
  Done all of the above.

Course

edit
  • "the runners enter the town of Natick, and enter the 'Scream Tunnel' at mile 12 once they have left the town." - repetition of both "enter" and "town"
Reworded
  • "that has been in place for over 100 years." - more than
Done
  • "followed by a 0.75 miles (1.21 km) climb at mile 16" - the adj=on field in the {{convert}} template is missing here
Done
  • "The first hill is a steep 1,200 yards (1,100 m) climb," - same issue as above
Done
  • "At half a mile long and with a 3.3% incline," - writing out the percent symbol is prefered per MOS:PERCENT
Done
Done
  • "but due to the hill being 20 miles (32 km) into the race, it is still feared." - why specially is the hill feared?
Added a little more explanation using the source.

Field

edit
  • "The fastest competitor in the women's race was Meseret Hailu who had run 2:21:09 to win the 2012 Amsterdam Marathon and 1:08:55 to win the 2012 IAAF World Half Marathon Championships." - repetition of "to win"
I'm not sure how to reword this and avoid confusion for the reader because it mentions two different distances so treating them separately adds clarification. I'll take a look later with fresh eyes.
  • 2012 Chicago Marathon is linked twice
Removed
  • "The wheelchair race began at 9:17 EDT (UTC-4), the women's race at 9:32 EDT" - repetition of "race"
Done

Race summary

edit
  • Hopkinton and Markos Geneti are overlinked
Done
  • "and climbed to 54 °F (12 °C) at the finish." - can be either rose or increased to avoid close paraphrasing of the USA Today source
Reworded. I didn't write this so I didn't know it was so closely paraphrased.
  • "Hiroyuki Yamamoto of Japan aimed to make a move at the 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) mark," - the adj=on field in the {{convert}} template is missing
Done
  • "In the men's race, Jason Hartmann and Fernando Cabada led the race" - repetition of "race"
Done

Bombing

edit
  • "At 2:49 EDT, race clock time 4:09.43, almost two hours after the winners had completed the race," - repetition of "race"
Removed
  • Boston Athletic Association's acronyms should be in parentheses after the full name is mentioned for the first time
Added
  • Bronze shouldn't really be linked
Removed link

Results

edit
  • Sources for the result should be with the results, rather than underneath the references section
  • The sources for the results should be with the results, rather than underneath the references section
Moved
  • All tables should be MOS:DTABTUT compliant with the addition of "scope="col"s
Added
  • The athletes names in all the tables should be sorted by surname with the {{sortname}} template
Placed names in the template.

References

edit
  • Reference 6 "WOMEN'S BOSTON UPDATES - 2013 Boston Marathon Live Updates" - no all words in capital letters please per MOS:ALLCAPS and the hyphen will need to be replaced by an en dash (–) per MOS:DASH
  • Reference 10 "117th Boston Marathon - 2013 Preview"." the hyphen will need be replaced by an en dash (–) per MOS:DASH
  • Reference 16 "2013 Boston Marathon Statistics" is missing the work
  • Reference 17 "Explosions rock Boston Marathon, several injured" is missing the two authors and the title needs to be update to the current one
  • Reference 20 "Boston Marathon Runners Sidelined by Bombings Feel 'Angry,' 'Disappointed'" is missing the author, work and publication date
  • Reference 21 "Boston invites stopped runners back" is missing Associated Press as the agency
Done made amendments to the above references.

Shall put the review on hold to allow the nominator to address or query the points raised above MWright96 (talk) 19:43, 6 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

@MWright96: thanks very much, once again, for a thorough review. Definitely some things to bare in mind before I nominate anymore marathon articles for GA. I believe I have fixed or removed all the issues you mentioned. Kind regards, Willbb234Talk (please {{ping}} me in replies) 17:05, 9 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
