Summary

Description
English: Zen master Yōsai. Myōan Yōsai was the founder of Japanese Rinzai Zen and abbot of Kennin-ji. The characteristic skull shape can be found on other portraits of him. Yōsai sits on the traditional abbot chair, Linji's cane in hand. Note that although Yōsai is sitting on a raised chair, he has taken off his shoes and crossed his legs. This way of sitting can also be observed in many other monk portraits.
Deutsch: Zenmeister Yōsai (Bild: Kurokawa Takao no Bi).
