AT&T logos

[edit]

Hi, I'm the bastard that is replacing your AT&T image logos with PNG images. However, I'm trying to see your point of replacing the images such as the one with the new AT&T logo being vertical. I see that you recently replaced my Image:ATT-globe-1984-logo.png with your Image:Attglobe.gif. Is it because of the color tone of the globe? It probably is which is why I replaced ATT-globe-1984-logo.png's color tone to match with the Attglobe.gif. I hope I didn't cause an "edit war" with you on this specific article. :-P --J. Cite sources

[edit]

Hi - Thank you for your addition to BellSouth! Please cite your sources for the information you added. I realize that most articles on Wikipedia unfortunately do not have proper sources cited but we are trying to correct that! Thanks! -SCEhardT 04:40, 19 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No problem! I've made a comment at BellSouth reflecting this. -SCEhardT 04:21, 20 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

MLK

[edit]

I'm not quite sure why you changed "African-American" to "black" in reference to Martin Luther King Jr., but it had the effect of linking to the color black, not to the racial designation. Also, don't forget to explain your edits in the edit summary box. Thanks, -Will Beback 23:43, 31 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Not to worry. The edit summary box sits between the eidting box, where you type your edit, and the "save" button. Cheers, -Will Beback 05:06, 1 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

{{SBC}} to {{AT&T}}

I moved {{SBC}} to {{AT&T}}, as the company name is AT&T. I left the SBC link as a redirect, but could you go back and clean up the current instances? Thanks :) Admrb♉ltz (T | C) 21:20, 9 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Bellsouth building birmingham.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Image legality questions page. Thank you. Nv8200p talk 13:45, 2 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The source is solved but another issue is the license. From the evidence shown, David Massey is not the copyright holder of the image, Eric Paschal is. "Photo coutesy of Eric Paschal is too ambiguous." Who knows what Eric is willing to license. In order for this image to stay on Wikipedia, you need written communication from Eric that he allows this image to be released under public domain or another free license. That communication needs to be posted on the discussion page of the image (See Image:Zebra finch.jpg for an example). We get worked up about this because it is the law. -Nv8200p talk 20:43, 2 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry but what he says makes no sense. "Since the image is on your site for educational purposes, I see no reason my picture can't be on your site." What does that mean? It sounds like he is giving permission for just Wikipedia to use. These type of images are not accetable to the site (See Wikipedia:Image_use_policy#Free_licenses). He needs to understand and agree to "release the image into the public domain" or "license the images for free use." Thanks -Nv8200p talk 02:13, 3 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

AT&T Page Split

[edit]

Let me start by saying that I am not opposed to splitting the page, in fact, I am he one who did. But there is a problem: When I tried to move the page, i tried to move it to the name AT&T Inc., with the period. For some reason, the system would not let me, so I had to move it to AT&T Inc, no period. But then, you came, and, becuase it let you use the period (I don't know if you mved a page or what to make room) and you renamed it AT&T Inc. I don't know why, but now there is a problem with the AT&T Inc. talk page, and it seems to be because of that damn period. I wanted to let you know, because I can't figure out how to fix it, its really confusing. If you understood my message, you can figure out how to fix it.

Also, keep the Pre-2005 AT&T page name the same. I realize that the new and old AT&Ts both had slightly differnet names (Inc. and Corp.) but harldly anyone else does. This will confuse them. Keep it clear and simple, and keep the Pre-2005 name. aido2002 20:26, 2 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Good idea. Though, the biggest problem is the talk page. If you did not see already, when you click on the discuss link it sends you to the wrong page, and then another... But also, using cut/paste is a good idea, but you may have to do the same with the history pages, for many reasons. (I've never tried copying and pasting a history page, but I think it is safe to assume it will work.) aido2002 23:37, 2 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

First of all, the SBC page should be SBC (1984-2005), not SBC Communications, because while there was no other SBC, it should be written almost like an obituary: tell when this company started, when it ended. So, please do not move the SBC page again. But regardless of the title, from now on, please do not use copy/paste to move pages, use the "move" button at the top. This moves both the talk and the article, and still gives credit to the creator in the history. Thanks, aido2002 19:28, 5 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

KYTV (TV) is utter crap

Look I work in the industry and there is no such thing as a (TV) suffix, however there is a -TV suffix. I can't tell you where I work, but you are wrong. TV Newser 19:06, 16 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I went to that template page, and I thank you for that because I requested it after you created it and realize that it's already there. However, that page needs a lot of work because I can't do it alone and there were too many former models in the past, including well-known ones that started their modeling careers in the 1970s. Go to Barker's Beauties, {{The Price is Right}} and {{The Price is Right worldwide}}, take a look at their current versions, and then click "edit the page" in each pag; and then realize how much work it needs. Also, I added {{categorize}} because it needs one or more categories. --Gh87 05:11, 21 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

EDIT: I made some edits, but they're minor. So no worries. --Gh87 17:23, 23 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

BellSouth disestablishment

[edit]

The company still technically exists, albeit as a sub-company of AT&T. I just wrote a check to them this week. They have indicated in local media here that the company will not cease to exist as a entity until later this year, once everything is done. As of present, and based on that, they are not defunct yet. --Mhking 23:55, 9 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed you replaced Image:American Telephone & Telegraph Company logo (1984-1999).svg with Image:AT&T84.PNG on the American Telephone & Telegraph Company article, but you didn't provide an explanation. Generally, vector images (like SVG) are more practical for logos than bitmaps, like PNG. So could you explain why you'd prefer to use the PNG? Thanks. Re:Cingular Article

[edit]

True, but Cingular just became AT&T--unlike Sprint and Daimler-Benz, who changed quite a while ago. For until the transition is complete, or until public awareness of the switch increases, we should add the "Formerly Cingular" note. aido2002 22:54, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Once again, this would not be permanent, only public awareness of the change increases. aido2002 17:15, 4 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It hasn't happened before, so I guess we're creating a new precedent. aido2002 22:12, 4 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That is the point. Once people know about the change, we can remove the note. aido2002 03:59, 5 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop being disruptive by moving this page. Cacophony 17:03, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you would have bothered to read the move request on the talk page, you would have seen that the majority of users voted to keep the name US West. This is in accordance with Wikipedia:Naming conventions, which states: article naming should prefer to what the majority of English speakers would most easily recognize. Please consult the talk pages and/or the Manual of Style before moving any more pages. I have requested for an administrator to move the page back to US West. Cacophony 20:45, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I reverted your move of US West to U S WEST, consensus for your move request was against the move. If you do not agree with the move, create a new move request and go through the move process, don't just move it. Thanks.--Bobblehead 23:40, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:SNET2002.PNG

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:SNET2002.PNG. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Conflict of Interest

[edit]

Hi, KansasCity! I noticed that you are editing articles related to AT&T and Bell companies. If you do indeed in fact work for the company, your editing falls upon a conflict of interest, because the edits promote one viewpoint above the next. This can lead to the article not having a neutral point of view. If I am mistaken about your interests on Wikipedia, then I apologize. Miranda 16:24, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No, I do not work for AT&T. My hobby, though, is involved with telecommunications history and telephones. I am sorry if my edits come off as if I am working for AT&T, but I actually keep myself updated on the telecom industry on a regular basis, especially the Bells, so I can share it with others, like the Wikipedia community. KansasCity 16:26, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
My apologies. Keep up the good work! Miranda 16:38, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

AT&T 'Founding' 'vandal'

Looks like this guy is going to argue anything we say. I think we might want to stop giving him his bully pulpit and simply correct any edits he does. Of course, that is because we are Wiki-elitists you know.--Donovan Ravenhull 15:55, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

SBC

[edit]

Hi. I still feel that there is a need for an SBC Communications article, primarily for clarity purposes. Yes, SBC has changed its name to AT&T Inc, but we have to put this in a full, historical context.

I was thinking of having a series on this - starting with AT&T 1885 - 1984, The break-up, the Baby Bells/ AT&T long lines (the primary unit from 1984-2005) and then the most recent article would be AT&T Inc. - each should be edited to flow well and maintain clarity. (New) AT&T Inc should lead with an overview of services without getting into the history details - the history should start with how SBC acquired AT&T (with a See Also, SBC Communications at the top), a paragraph on how this is significant (subsidiary eventually buying its parent) and then the diagram and so forth. The founding/expansion should be kept at the SBC Comm. article.

If you think about it, SBC was a successor of AT&T, and now AT&T is a successor of SBC, meaning AT&T is a direct descendant of AT&T. A quick redirect just doesn't do the trick.

I would appreciate your input on this.

Orphaned non-free image (Image:USWestbell.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:USWestbell.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 20:42, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

AT&T history

[edit]

Unlike our anon, I'm familiar with the different histories, but as long as we have links to an article about AT&T's BellSouth merger (which I grant was almost simultaneous), and links about the bell system, we might as well throw in the history of one of SBC's largest acquisitions. I would not be opposed to including histories on GTE and Bell South for the same reason. Cool Hand Luke 04:40, 24 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

And actually, just specifying the dates is misleading because a user might mistakenly believe that it's just the history up until 2005, when in fact it's totally different. On second thought, maybe we should just indicate which companies are now part of Texas AT&T in the "see also" section. Sorry, you're right. Cool Hand Luke 04:45, 24 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I already agree with you. See above. The history links don't belong on the TX AT&T page; it's confusing. I just think that this is more than an ordinary case of "See also" where they should be redundantly marked as being acquired. Some people do have the perspective that they're continuous entities, so the acquisitions deserve a special spot, and hopefully this will seem intuitive enough that our anon and any other editors in the future won't try to add history as if it were a mega article. Cool Hand Luke 04:56, 24 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I know about GTE's independence, I meant to say PacTel, sorry. Cool Hand Luke 04:48, 24 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Qwest Corporation

[edit]

OK, after I reverted the page again, just for the hell of it, I checked to see, if once again, there were seperate pages for Pacific Northwest Bell and Northwestern Bell, as, once upon a time there was seperate paged for those two companies, and Mountain Bell. Then they were consolidated into the Qwest Corp page, and I figured, "well I guess that makes sense, since they've been merged into a single entity". Now they're split again, except the Mountain Bell section, which, with the current structure, implies that Qwest Corp IS Mountain Bell, which the other two companies have been merged in to. Is this a fact? I honestly don't know. If nothing else, there should be wiki-links to the other two pages. 24.185.31.111 02:41, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Little context in Category:R.H. Donnelley

[edit]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Category:R.H. Donnelley, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Category:R.H. Donnelley is very short providing little or no context to the reader. To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Category:R.H. Donnelley, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. Thanks for uploading Image:BellSouthLogo.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:30, 30 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:ATTCLS.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:ATTCLS.jpg. You've indicated that the image meets Wikipedia's criteria for non-free content, but there is no explanation of why it meets those criteria. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. If you have any questions, please post them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions.

Thank you for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 20:38, 21 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Qwest Corporation

[edit]

I'm not debating the procedural move to combine the three companies but the current day Qwest Corporation is a sum of the total. Mt. Bell is no more or no less important than the other two in the present day operation. I think your point is clear in the article how it evolved to what it is now. Surely it can be refined but the article is much more useful with the full picture. Jakiah (talk) 05:12, 20 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Verizon Communications. Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions on a single page within a 24 hour period. Additionally, users who perform a large number of reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring, even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing. Please do not repeatedly revert edits, but use the talk page to work towards wording and content that gains a consensus among editors. If necessary, pursue dispute resolution. ~Amatulić (talk) 01:49, 23 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This user has engaged the edit war with myself and several other users (Speer320, Dmol, Kuru, Elipongo). It is clear that we have grown quite annoyed with the disruption this IP user has been causing with the Verizon Communications, AT&T, Bell System, and American Telephone & Telegraph articles. The Verizon article has been protected, and this should also be a consideration for the aforementioned articles. Anything that I have tried to say on the talk page in regards to a compromise has been shot down with rude, personal attacks and accusations that there is some agenda to "keep the SBC name alive". KansasCity, I know that you still believe that AT&T Corp. became defunct (dissolved) since the 2005 merger. However, this page on the offical AT&T website says that after the merger closed, AT&T Corp. became a wholly owned subsidiary of AT&T Inc. (emphasis added), which clearly shows that you (and Speer320 and so on...) have been vandalizing the AT&T Corp. page. Remember that that web page linked to above is the offical AT&T web site, so the information there is 100% true. I, and many others, would really appreciate you going to that web page, reading it closely, and thinking hard about how you have been vandalizing the AT&T Corp. page, sooo many times during this edit war.

Thanks for uploading Image:KTMJ.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Speedy deletion of AnyWho.com

[edit]

A tag has been placed on AnyWho.com requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 15:33, 29 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Frontier Communications Online and Long Distance requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. jsfouche ☽☾ talk 01:04, 14 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Autopatrolled

[edit]

Hello, this is just to let you know that I have granted you the "autopatrolled" permission. This won't affect your editing, it just automatically marks any page you create as patrolled, benefiting new page patrollers. Please remember:

  • This permission does not give you any special status or authority
  • Submission of inappropriate material may lead to its removal
  • You may wish to display the {{Autopatrolled}} top icon and/or the {{User wikipedia/autopatrolled}} userbox on your user page
  • If, for any reason, you decide you do not want the permission, let me know and I can remove it
If you have any questions about the permission, don't hesitate to ask. Otherwise, happy editing!HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 05:15, 28 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Reviewer granted

[edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged revisions, underwent a two-month trial which ended on 15 August 2010. Its continued use is still being discussed by the community, you are free to participate in such discussions. Many articles still have pending changes protection applied, however, and the ability to review pending changes continues to be of use.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under level 1 pending changes and edits made by non-reviewers to level 2 pending changes protected articles (usually high traffic articles). Pending changes was applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

For the guideline on reviewing, see Wikipedia:Reviewing. Being granted reviewer rights doesn't grant you status nor change how you can edit articles even with pending changes. The general help page on pending changes can be found here, and the general policy for the trial can be found here.

If you do not want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Dabomb87 (talk) 23:46, 30 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hey KC,

You may have noticed that I've been working on the CenturyLink operating companies articles. This was prompted by another editor's questions about verifiability. I concur. I've found some sources on the existing companies, but would love to know what your sources are so we can make sure the list is complete.

Speaking of the list, I wanted your thoughts on organization. I currently have it as a straight alphabetical list, but can see giving it a bit of a tree structure, with the "legacy CenturyTel", "Embarq" and "Qwest" as headers. (Of course, whether they stay that way or are reorganized in the future may change our decision, but there's regulatory issues withthat afaik.)

Finally, unwanted to point out WP:UNLINKDATES and WP:OVERLINK, (specifically the part on repeated links), as I've made those fixes on the newly created articles for some companies. oknazevad (talk) 22:17, 29 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

No need to apologize; good faith efforts are always welcome. I was asking about your sources in part because I couldn't find a straightforward list of CenturyLink operating companies at their site. If you could put the link on my talk page I'd much appreciate it.
The idea of using the state regulators for finding company history is a good one. I found a section of the FCC's site here that covers some history, but it is only current through January 2010, so it doesn't have quite everything.
As for separate articles, I have no problem with them. I turned the Embarq list into a CenturyLink list to act as a central navigation page more than anything else. Grouping by historical predecessor/holding company would be fine by me. oknazevad (talk) 03:03, 1 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
That sounds good. The Bell System article serves as a "central" article for all of the Bell Operating Companies, the List of CenturyLink operating companies page could serve as a central page for all of the CenturyLink companies! KansasCity (talk) 18:21, 1 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Similarly, there's a section on the Verizon article listing their operating companies. Same with AT&T (which are all Bell Operating Companies). Conceivably we could merge the list into the CenturyLink article, but, due to the way the companies have been accumulated over the years, it's a longer list and makes sense as a stand alone list. oknazevad (talk) 03:26, 3 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The article CenturyTel of South Arkansas has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Company does not show evidence of notability and therefore should be deleted unless it can source such information in the article.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. File permission problem with File:Cp west virginia 1969 cl.gif

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Cp west virginia 1969 cl.gif. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. New England Telephone

[edit]

I don't know about the status of other Bell operating companies, but the fact that New England Telegraph's coverage area is now owned by two different firms - Verizon and FairPoint - seems to make an infobox at best confusing and at worse misleading or wrong. After all, why not include the FairPoint Communications infobox instead, since somewhere around a quarter of the phone lines that were NET are now FP

I think that the article's current wording, which explains in great detail about the history, with wikilinks to all the companies, is sufficient. I don't think an infobox, which is designed to be a focused piece of data presentation, serves any purpose in an unfocused (so to speak) topic like this. - DavidWBrooks (talk) 15:01, 13 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think that having an infobox would be confusing so long as there is language contained in the article detailing that Verizon New England's operations in Northern New England are now serviced by FairPoint through Northern New England Telephone Operations and Telephone Operating Company of Vermont. There are links to those pages contained in the article. I think another good example is Lucent Technologies - now owned by Alcatel-Lucent, it still legally exists as Alcatel-Lucent USA. It had various spinoffs over the years - Avaya and Agere Systems to name a couple. That never changed the fact that the original Lucent Technologies entity has not ceased to exist, albeit with a great deal of smaller assets than it did upon creation in 1995. Also refer to C&P Telephone. Only 3 of the 4 companies known under the C&P Telephone name at one time are owned by Verizon - West Virginia was sold to Frontier Communications and now exists as Frontier West Virginia. It is still the same company owned by AT&T until 1984, and owned by Bell Atlantic/Verizon until 2010. There is a clear delineation on the C&P Telephone page directing one to visit Frontier West Virginia for current information on that company since it no longer is associated with Verizon. KansasCity (talk) 15:15, 13 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Why not the Fairpoint infobox, then? Why only Verizon?
The point of an infobox is to guide the reader ... this would (I think) confuse them, at best. The article has lots of text explaining the history which cannot be distilled into an infobox; it's not like the article is misleading. But that history cannot be put into an infobox, so why add it? - DavidWBrooks (talk) 16:05, 13 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think we should include the FairPoint template because Verizon New England is not the property of FairPoint; only assets in Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont that formerly belonged to Verizon New England now belong to FairPoint. I don't quite understand the infobox issue...the infobox in general refers to the company the article is discussing, almost as a "quick glimpse" of the company. It cannot be doubted that Verizon New England, Inc. was founded in 1883, incorporated in New York, serves Rhode Island and Massachusetts, has its headquarters in Boston, and has its own websites for the two states it serves. Nor can it be refuted that Northern New England Telephone Operations LLC and Telephone Operating Company of Vermont LLC are two separate companies from Verizon New England that are owned by FairPoint that took over the operations in those states that Verizon used to serve. Since all 3 of the operating companies I have mentioned have separate pages, there is no reason to have more than one infobox on each page. I have an idea - why don't we move "New England Telephone" to "Verizon New England" and turn the page "New England Telephone" into a disambiguation page? That way, there will be 3 links to the companies that used to consist of what was all called "New England Telephone" at one time, and then people will have a clearer direction of where to go if they want information on the topic. KansasCity (talk) 13:57, 14 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I see you've gone ahead abd moved the damn thing, without asking anybody, unilaterally confusing everybody ... I'm about to leave on vacation for two weeks, but hopefully others will undo your pointless (IMHO, of course) maneuver. People in three states who were customers of New England Telephone will now be directed to a company that has no connection whatsoever with them, with no obvous way of finding the one that does ... what the heck is the good of that? - DavidWBrooks (talk) 15:28, 18 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I have calmed down. I went and looked at what you did, and have tweaked the disambiguation page so that readers know which of the NET-named firms is the one they want, and I think it's adequate. Unnecessary, but adequate. - DavidWBrooks (talk) 15:33, 18 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Verizon Wireless

[edit]

I'm trying to locate anything that would support that the legal name of Verizon Wireless is still Cellco Partnership. The partnership itself appears to have ended when Vodaphone sold it's share of Verizon Wireless to Verizon Communications - and that sale appears to have closed a few months ago. The only mention remaining on the Verizon Wireless website appears to be related to a court case from 2008 - all other mention of that name appears to have been purged from their site, and I can't locate it still in use anywhere else. --- Barek (talkcontribs) - 05:41, 11 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The official record in Cellco Partnership's home state of incorporation is located in the Delaware Business Entity Database which closes down at midnight and will reopen at 7 or 8 AM. Here is a record from the Kansas Business database...if the name was changed, a filing would have been made in every state in which it does business. [1] KansasCity (talk) 05:59, 11 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
They would not have amended a "General Partnership Statement" to change a name if the partnership was bought out by one of the entities (which happened earlier this year) - it's wholly owned by a single entity now, no longer a partnership. The form you listed shows the partnership was registered in 2010, it's a static document from that point in the past.
Additionally, their "about us" page clearly states: "Verizon Wireless is wholly owned by Verizon Communications Inc. and is headquartered in Basking Ridge, N.J."[2] --- Barek (talkcontribs) - 16:22, 11 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The "about us" page never clearly states a company's "real" and "true" legal name if there is a d/b/a name being used. The "About Us" page should be used as a guide but in this case it is not proof of the legal name of Verizon Wireless. Additionally, simply because Verizon bought out the remaining shares of Verizon Wireless from Vodafone bears no proof on the claim that Cellco Partnership changed its legal name. If you would refer to the link to the Kansas Secretary of State's web page I posted above, you'll see that, at the time of that filing, there were FOUR entities which own Verizon Wireless - 2 owned by Vodafone, 2 owned by Verizon. As to the details of whether Verizon Communications purchased JVParnerCO and PCS Nucleus from Vodafone, or whether they simply transferred their interest of Verizon Wireless as individual entities to Verizon Communications or Bell Atlantic Mobile Systems or GTE Wireless, I don't know. However, Verizon owns two entities, "Bell Atlantic Mobile Systems, LLC" and "GTE Wireless Incorporated", which, as of today, I have not been able to find any documents which state this two companies no longer continue to serve as partners in ownership of the Cellco Partnership. I believe you are trying to argue Cellco Partnership could not possibly be named as such because it is a wholly owned subsidiary of Verizon; however, legally the company would still be a partnership as it has 2 owners, although they are subisidiaries of Verizon, that would still qualify as classifying the company that does business as Verizon Wireless as a partnership. KansasCity (talk) 15:47, 14 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Here is an additional legal document serving as a public notice from as recently as May which states Verizon Wireless' true and legal name is Cellco Partnership. http://publicnotices.portlandtribune.com/?tag=cellco-partnership-verizon-wireless KansasCity (talk) 15:52, 14 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
...and another from as recent as March and April, well after the Verizon purchase of Vodafone's shares closed: http://www.ct.gov/csc/lib/csc/pendingproceeds/docket_446/8_pre_postfiled/446-20140422-exh3_interrogresponses.pdf KansasCity (talk) 15:55, 14 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Asking for help with article "Verizon Communications"

[edit]

Hello KansasCity, I'm reaching out to you because I see you've made some edits to the Verizon Communications article and I hope you might be able to help me. I'm an employee of Verizon, and have been working with a few editors to improve the Verizon article. Because I have a financial conflict of interest as an employee, I've been posting requests at Talk:Verizon Communications, and don't make any edits myself. I currently have one open request there, related to an addition about tethering. I'm hoping you might have time to take a look and make the change in the article if my suggestion looks okay to you.

Also, I wanted to let you know that there was a recent edit to the introduction of the Verizon article which is accurate, but introduced a typo, with the end of the first paragraph now reading "...but and incorporated in Delaware." Could you also correct this if you have a moment?

Thanks so much, VZBob (talk) 17:08, 3 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Looking for help updating the Verizon Enterprise Solutions article

[edit]

Hi again KansasCity, I hope you're well. I'm reaching out to you since you've done a bit of work on the Verizon Enterprise Solutions article in the past. The article is very short currently, as I imagine you know, so I drafted a new, expanded version of the article, which I uploaded to my userspace. If you have time, do you think you could review it and, if it looks acceptable, replace the current article with my draft? I've also posted a few more detailed about my draft at Talk:Verizon Enterprise Solutions.

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on CBD Media requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Proposed deletion of SNET Diversified Group

[edit]

The article SNET Diversified Group has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

The coverage (references, external links, etc.) does not seem sufficient to justify this article passing Wikipedia:General notability guideline and the more detailed Wikipedia:Notability (companies) requirement. If you disagree and deprod this, please explain how it meets them on the talk page in the form of "This article meets criteria A and B because..." and ping me back. Thank you,

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. File source problem with File:SignaturPrincess.jpg

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:SignaturPrincess.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading File:AT&T Yellow Pages of Wyandotte County.jpg.

This image is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such images would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a screenshot of a computer game or movie. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original image must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.

While the image description page states the source and copyright status of the derivative work, it only names the creator of the original work without specifying the status of their copyright over the work.

Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the original image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other derivative works, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. Thanks again for your cooperation. Kelly hi! 11:58, 22 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:AT&T logo 1969-1983.png

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:AT&T logo 1969-1983.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.

I am warning you nicely to stop warring on the AT&T page...Thanks.And Welcome to WikipediaBBMatBlood (talk) 15:03, 6 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I have not partaken in any warring; you have continued to insist upon changes to the AT&T page citing a supposed consensus of merging the pages of AT&T Corp. and AT&T. I have corrected those pages along with other contributors to match long-established precedent. I’ve yet to see where this discussion is located on merging the pages other than your insistence in page edit comments that it be done. Ever the acquisition of AT&T Corp. by SBC Communications Inc. in 2005, and subsequent renaming to AT&T Inc, the founding date has been cited as October 1983. Please begin a conversation on the talk pages and a consensus can then be reached if you desire to merge the pages. KansasCityKSMO (talk) 19:01, 6 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Southern New England Telephone

[edit]

Please explain why you moved Frontier Communications of Connecticut to Southern New England Telephone, and with no discussion? Markvs88 (talk) 13:12, 18 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I thought it would be an uncontroversial move as there are many pages for other Bell-related telephone companies in similar situations (legal name different from trade name). Examples include Ohio Bell, Southwestern Bell, and Pacific Bell. They were their historically known by these names and, to this day, still have them as their legal names. KansasCityKSMO (talk) 19:13, 19 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I have to disagree with that logic. SNET was an independent; it was never an AT&T/Bell owned company, whereas all of those are or were. Had you done SBC Communications or AT&T Connecticut instead I could kind of see that... but both are still anachronistic. Also, since Frontier bought the (merged) AT&T Connecticut from SBC, they didn't just buy SNET -- they also bought Woodbury Telephone and several other entities. I see the article was put back, so no harm no foul. Best, Markvs88 (talk) 20:41, 19 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I disagree that SNET was never associated with Bell. Yes, SNET was an independent, but at the same time associated with the Bell System, because AT&T owned under 20% of the company’s shares. Otherwise it would not have been able to use the Bell logo were it truly independent from any association with Bell. Frontier did buy the LEC Southern New England Telephone along with SNET America, but the legal names remained unchanged. The SNET that was dissolved was the former holding company Southern New England Telecommunications, years before the sale of the LEC entity, and the page reflects that. It would not have made sense to move the page for the LEC to “AT&T Connecticut” because the legal name has always been Southern New England Telephone. Should the Qwest Corporation page then be renamed to its trade name “CenturyLink QC”? It follows the same logic as moving Southern New England Telephone to its current title. KansasCityKSMO (talk) 00:13, 20 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Note that I didn't say "never associated", I said "never owned". That's a big difference. But beyond that: who's going to search for "WaWa Iron Foundry" instead of the surviving [Wawa]] convenience store chain? It's an anachronism to do so, and no one would look for SNET instead of Frontier now, 20+ years on.
As for Qwest, I would say that article should be frozen as a historical one and not be merged or renamed at all. IMO, the 'pedia has a major problem with corporations, in that they often get merged/redir'd/etc, and then the old/historical information gets purged over the years as no longer being relevant. It's basically approved-of data loss, and it's not a positive thing to me. Markvs88 (talk) 15:37, 20 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The Southern and South Central Bell network companies

[edit]

Hello. I don't mean arguing but during a call to the former Bell South in June three years ago I was told by several people at the customer service that South Central Bell and Southern Bell were not really defunct and these names were later revived through the "new" AT&T in either the late 2000s decade or the early to mid 2010s. That was why I used several reference pieces indicating these groups today do business as the current AT&T. Can you please contact me next time you do not agree with edits from me? Angela Kate Maureen Pears 13:10, 29 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Angela, I made these edits based on concrete facts. The page Southern Bell refers to the corporate entity held by AT&T prior to the breakup. The BellSouth Telecommunications page refers to the current company, incorporated in Georgia, which was created prior to the breakup of AT&T as SBT&T Co. and then was renamed Southern Bell after the original company named Southern Bell was merged into it. This company was renamed BellSouth Telcommunications in December 1991 following the merger of South Central Bell into the second company named Southern Bell. You can find the filings of the mergers of the original Southern Bell and South Central Bell into the company now known as BellSouth Telecommunications searching for it on the website of the Georgia Secretary of State: https://ecorp.sos.ga.gov/BusinessSearch/BusinessFilings KansasCityKSMO (talk) 04:01, 30 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
