Welcome to Wikipedia, Ghinga7! Thank you for your contributions. I am DRAGON BOOSTER and I have been editing Wikipedia for some time, so if you have any questions, feel free to leave me a message on my talk page. You can also check out Wikipedia:Questions or type {{help me}} at the bottom of this page. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Also, when you post on talk pages you should sign your name using four tildes (~~~~); that will automatically produce your username and the date. I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! DRAGON BOOSTER 16:32, 8 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

We have a list that automatically adds an entry whenever someone makes an edit request. While the discussion at Talk:Badminton is ongoing, please stop changing the word "yes" back to "no" because it incorrectly re-adds badminton to that list even though the request has gotten a response at least three times. (It's also a problem because, if a discussion is ongoing, you're not even supposed to make the request. The preference is to wait until the discussion has concluded.) This change does not benefit you at all because people are already discussing but your action is adding and re-adding an unnecessary entry to an already overloaded list. Your GA nomination of Sign stealing

[edit]

Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article Sign stealing you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have during this period. Message delivered by Legobot, on behalf of Larry Hockett -- Larry Hockett (talk) 04:10, 6 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I have wrapped up the first round of feedback. Some of the feedback is going to require fairly substantial additions to the article, so I would like to look the article over again once the initial feedback is addressed. Thanks! Larry Hockett (Talk) 08:21, 6 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

IRC

[edit]

Hi Ghinga7, just wanted to check in with you, it looks like you had some questions on IRC earlier about helping, but left without really getting a substantive response from us. We appreciate your interest and I'd like to offer some clarification to help you move forward. IRC has "cloaks" that help identify users as being affiliated with various "projects". Wikipedia has project "cloaks", as well. Cloaks also will hide your IP to a certain extent when you are using IRC. On the help channel, we use these cloaks to identify who is "voiced" in the channel, and "voiced" users are considered helpers. You can find more information about cloaks and how to obtain one here. Please bear in mind that processing times for cloaks being approved can be quite long (sometimes several weeks) based on a Group Contact needing to be part of the process. I hope this helps clarify things for you. Please let me know if you have any questions! Waggie (talk) 19:31, 30 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @User:Waggie! The reason I left was because I had already figured it out and applied for the cloak. Thanks for checking in though. I have a question. How will I know I have a cloak? Will I get some sort of message? Best regards, Ghinga7 (talk) 19:41, 30 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hi there Ghinga7, you will know it's been granted when you connect to IRC, identify to your Freenode account, and your hostname changes in /whois. If it's not granted, you will not receive a message. I don't initially see any reasons why your cloak would be denied, you do appear to meet the requirements, if barely. Given your edit count, I would really recommend that you get more experience on-wiki first, especially in dealing with new pages and at AfD. You might also want to read the help posts over at the TeaHouse to see how user questions are handled over there. I hope this helps! Waggie (talk) 21:45, 30 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Teahouse

[edit]

Hello there. I noticed that you've been trying to add yourself to the list of Hosts at the Teahouse, but have not actually answered any questions there yet, which is rather unusual. I just wanted to thank you for showing an interest in helping others, and would point out that anyone can answer questions at the Teahouse at any time - you don't need to sign up as a Host to do that. We normally ask users to have around 500 mainspace and broad experience across Wikipedia (though that was partly to discourage those hat collectors who spend all their time fiddling with their or others' talk pages).

Providing you fix the size of the image you added, I don't mind you leaving your entry there, though would have preferred you to have shown some prior participation and have demonstrated that you understand the friendly, welcoming ethos of the Teahouse before doing so. It goes without saying, of course, that hosts need a good understanding of policies relating to any topic they comment upon, so your recent creation of Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Talk:Goat curry suggests there are areas you might wish to avoid commenting upon until you have gained a little more experience here. The choice is yours to let it remain as you clearly show good intent, though anyone who signs up as a Teahouse host and who doesn't participate after some months may have their entry removed so that our list of experienced helpers is as up to date and relevant as it can be. Best wishes, Nick Moyes (talk) 23:01, 30 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @User:Nick Moyes! Thanks for the message. I do believe that I have broad experience in Wikipedia. About that Afd nomination: it was frankly a mental miscalculation on my part due to the late hour and an overly itchy afd button pressing finger. I revert a lot of vandalism and fix typos, though. The reason I did not answer any questions is because I thought it best not to do that until I had signed up. The only thing I can say I'm a bit lacking on is content creation and knowledge of wiki markup. I'll try to fix the picture, but I was having trouble with it. Ghinga7 (talk) 23:20, 30 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
OK - good luck. I can see you're serious, so I certainly didn't want to come across as unfriendly or put you off. Hope to see you around. Nick Moyes (talk) 23:32, 30 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Kwes, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Tirzah (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 06:16, 10 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

RfA

[edit]

Hey, Ghinga7! Your question wasn't silly, but I'd question whether it really helped you or anyone else go from "I have a concern about this candidate" to making a decision. If it doesn't do that, it's probably irrelevant. The candidate's AfD statistics are about as good as I've ever seen. Unless the one you were asking about was somehow a ridiculously bad opinion (which it wasn't, the candidate's opinion was completely reasonable, it just didn't match the final result) then it's kind of moot. RfAs can easily get 200 !votes. If everyone asks their 2 allowed questions, that's 400 questions. As a result many experienced editors who've participated in a lot of RfAs consider irrelevant questions to be problematic. FWIW, I've !voted in dozens of RfAs, and I've asked a question at ONE. The only real reason to ask a question is because you have experience with the editor or knowledge of their edits that causes you to think maybe they wouldn't be a good admin, but you aren't sure, and you want to give them a chance to explain or clarify.

At any rate, I thought I'd respond here rather than at the overlong discussion. :) Best wishes to you! —valereee (talk) 16:57, 26 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks valeree, that's what I thought was a bit of a problem. I really did have a purpose for it. What it was, I have no idea. I'm pretty sure it had something to do with how close the discussion was. Thanks for the message, though. Ghinga7 (talk) 17:07, 26 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
No worries, the actual learning is probably "Avoid asking questions at RfA unless you are EXTREMELY clear on why you need that question answered before you can !vote." :D Quite honestly, IMO asking a question at RfA is a lot more likely to make you look bad than to make you look good. :D —valereee (talk) 18:44, 26 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

G5

[edit]

Your comment suggesting G5 is mistaken. The first block of any account in the sock cluster was 2020-07-20 12:51:33. The draft was created 16:44, 19 July 2020. Since no block was in place at the time the draft was created WP:G5 is not applicable. Hope that helps, Cabayi (talk) 18:27, 31 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, I see. I misunderstood. I didn't have much knowledge of the subject, just tried to make a suggestion. Sorry! Ghinga7 (talk) 21:04, 31 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Charitina of Amisus

[edit]

Hi Ghinga7, so I'm working on improving/creating articles about female saints for Wikipedia:WikiProject 1000 Women in Religion and I happened upon Charitina of Amisus, which you put a tag on just back in July. In your edit summary, you said that you wanted to get back to it, so I thought that before I started mucking around, I'd ask you if it was all right. If you're invested in working on it, I'm good with stepping back because it's not like I don't have enough other saints to work on. Hey, if your interests lean towards saints and female saints in particular, you might want to participate in the wikiproject. We don't just focus on female saints, of course, but on women religious and we've been able to do some really good work. We Zoom one a month; actually, our next one is tomorrow (27 August). If you're interested, ping me and I'll send you the info. Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 05:11, 27 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hey @User:Figureskatingfan! Yeah I still plan on making some fixes as regards that tag, but probably not much else. I'm busy today, though, so I don't mind you working on it while I'm gone. I'm not real interested in female saints. I actually found it through recent changes looking for something to edit. However, while we're exchanging recommendations for wikiprojects... I just started up the North American History taskforce (again)! You might like it. Ghinga7 (talk) 16:19, 27 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds great, I'll let you have it. I'm becoming more and more busy, so I can't promise anything about the taskforce, although I'll try and look at it in the next couple of days. Best of luck and see you around! Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 18:35, 27 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
