Hello there Asdfasdf1231234,

Thanks for the contact. It appears the geograph sources have since been removed, which was a good call. I know the advocate of their inclusion meant well, but that source just isn't reliable. Using Geograph.org.uk as a source does not have the article's best interests at heart.

I'll try to monitor the situation, but feel free to give me a nudge should the debate continue. -- Jza84 · (talk) 00:31, 3 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, can you reassess the article City Stars Cairo? I have improved it and added references. And also, can you tell me how to improve it further in order to get a better assessment? Thanks, Abdallah (talk) 19:36, 3 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well thanks :), but I want to make this a good article not just "relatively good". I upgraded this article from this to what it is now, and I'm hoping to get this article to a GA or A status. Can you tell me what is it missing or what’s not right? Abdallah (talk) 19:53, 3 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Wow, thats alot...I'll try my best, but the problem is that, there are very few online resources that I can use. Thanks for your help! Cheers, Abdallah (talk) 17:41, 4 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Peer review feedback

[edit]

Hi, I noticed you have a request in at peer review which has not yet received any response besides the semi-automated script. Have you tried requesting a peer review from the volunteers list? Another idea is to review someone else's request (particularly one from the list of requests without responses), then ask that they look at your request. Hope these are helpful suggestions and help to get some feedback for your request soon, APR t 20:48, 13 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:ShropshireLoggerhead.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 15:42, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Thanks

Sorry not to get back to you earlier, I kept meaning too! No problem about posting messages about the proposed Shropshire WikiProject, I just hope it stimulates some interest. Clearly Dpaajones, yourself a maybe a couple of others have been doing a lot of great work in this region and it'd be a shame if you couldn't get some more folk from the area to help you.

Have you tried posting a message about the proposal to all those at Category:Wikipedians in Shropshire? That might help a bit more. It would be fantastic to get another local project off the ground; the major city-regions seem to be dominating UK geo at the moment. Hopefully some Shire projects can start churning out some GAs and FAs, some of which I have no doubt (Shrewsbury) will come from yourself. --Jza84 |  Talk  15:58, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding your last post about Shrewsbury, I made a couple of small cosmetic changes to the article and left a note on the talk page about a few minor issues. I hope they help! It was a really, really great article. If nobody else comes by over the weekend, give me a nudge and I'll do the GA review myself. --Jza84 |  Talk  18:59, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Asdfasdf1231234!
We thank you for uploading Image:WellingtonShropshire.jpg, but there is a problem. Your image is currently missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. Unless you can help by adding a copyright tag, it may be deleted by an Administrator. If you know this information, then we urge you to add a copyright tag to the image description page. Supermarkets

[edit]

Hi. I disagree. You said yourself, you used the BBC news story AND a postcode map - you should have referenced that too. Someone else has reverted the Sainsbury's edit on the basis that "the source is two years old and market share has changed since" - that's a fair point. And given Sainsbury's quite aggressive expansion policy announced with its annual results (extensions & new stores) it will change still further very quickly. After reviewing your request for rollback, I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Rollback may be removed at any time.

If you do not want rollback, then contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some information on how to use rollback, you can view this page. Hello there! Thanks for the contact! The issue with Scotland is, well, annoying to say the least! I suppose it's a product of consensus editting, where large groups of organised users can sway opinion. Scotsmen are reknowned for defending their land as anything but less than a "country" - it's part of the cultural psyche. It might be worth you having a flick through the debates and stating your piece? I hope all is well with you, :) --Jza84 |  Talk  19:47, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Shuts and passages

[edit]

Hi there - not Wikipedia related, but very much Shrewsbury related! Have a read of the following article about the new move by the County Council to add 20 of the shuts and passages in the town centre to the rights of way map.

It's an important moment in getting many of the town's shuts and passages the protection they deserve. Would be most excellent if you could chip in with a letter of support or so. David (talk) 21:12, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Do you remember what source you used for the List of shopping centres in the United Kingdom by size article? I was thinking about giving the Trafford Centre article a look and most of the article needs sourcing. In this case, I was thinking of the bit about it being the 4th or 5th largest shopping centre in the UK. Nev1 (talk) 00:31, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice

[edit]

Hi,

As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.

We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.

You may also wish to attend the next London meet-up at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch Wikipedia:Meetup, for updates on future meets.

We look forward to hearing from you soon, and we send our apologies for this automated intrusion onto your talk page!

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Bhamuniversitylogo.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Bhamuniversitylogo.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 14:19, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for Image:GatecrasherLogo.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:GatecrasherLogo.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 00:06, 8 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Shrewsbury

[edit]
The River Severn near Coton looking towards Shrewsbury Castle.

The panorama might do if it were not such a low resolution image. Nor does it show the same perspective of the river. (I have just had a comment from a contact who lives there that he may ask one of his friends to do a better version of it. And my contact has a brilliant photo of Shrewsbury School, but I am suggesting that he does not upload it to Wiki until he has tried it in competitions.) I could have done with a better camera when taking that riverside photo. If you live close enough, you could probably nip out at the best time of day and improve on this photo, as well as find a better location than by Pig Trough.

We could probably add an Image gallery at the end of the article, like the one for Shrewsbury railway station. Shrewsbury is too large a topic to cover adequately in one single article. Wikipedia is not very good at managing photos in any other way in terms of page layout. photos tend to run past the horizontal lines associated with headings. For that matter, so does the Infobox. It is just one of those things about the wiki page layout. Sic friat crustulum.

The photos relating to John Wesley serve the function of Reference to verify encyclopaedic content. A lot of the other information caould also be regarded as being referenced by photos, so this is something to think about in general, not just on this article. Robert of Ramsor (talk) 01:11, 4 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

And one photo we need is the Column near SCAT, London Road site, this being a substantial landmark. If we could add a useful Image gallery, it should also include both English Bridgae and Welsh Bridge as the main road bridges, but the footbridges are also of interest, not least that one of them is cast iron, made in Dudley. Back to the River Severn view. History is the wrong section for it, but I put it there as being (at the moment) the first sevtion after the introductory section, which would be too crowded (I did a draft version with it there). Favour

[edit]

Hi there, could I ask you a favour? My name's Andrew Turvey and I'm the Secretary of Wikimedia UK. We're the newly formed chapter of the Wikimedia Foundation - the charity that owns and runs Wikipedia and other projects - covering the United Kingdom and we're looking to organise our first AGM.

We have decided that the best place to hold it would be Birmingham, as it is central, and would like to follow up Birmingham University. I notice that you are down as a Birmingham University student and wondered if you would be able to help us with this.

The main thing we need at the moment is a contact at a sympathetic BUGS student society who would be prepared to book a room at the university for us, which would allow up to 40 people to come along. Is this something you could help us with?

Anything you could do would be gratefully received - please contact me on my talk page or via email. Thanks AndrewRT(Talk) 23:03, 21 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Shropshire

[edit]

Hi. I notice you've created some WikiProject Shropshire pages in your userspace. Without knowing they were there I've just started a WikiProject Shropshire page. But I see your version is a little big mroe in depth and has a better userbox. Would you be interested in helping to expand the project and help get it off the ground. Let me know if you can help. Cheers TheRetroGuy (talk) 20:03, 16 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I have also noticed the project draft in your userspace at User:Asdfasdf1231234/Notes. However, there are active templates in it that are causing confusion in the search routines of Wikipedia. As this project is not yet officially online and has not received an endorsement from the project requests department, any shortcuts, templates, and cats you have created in it should be enclosed in tags. This will temporarily disable any functions that are invisibly embedded in the code. I can't do this for you as it is frowned upon to refactor users' pages without their express permission. Do take up TheRetroGuy's offer of help, and mine too - I manage the neigbouring WP:WORCS which currently looks after Salop a bit. I am online a lot, and I'm sure that between us all we could get this project up and running, although it should ideally have at least six members signed up on the project request page to justify its launch.--Kudpung (talk) 02:15, 10 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I actually wasn't aware that new projects had to be run past a proposals discussion when I started the Shropshire Project. I'd got WP:EDINBURGH off the ground a few months earlier by just launching it and inviting others to join. Fortunately I got the required number of editors with that one. WP:HEREFORD, which I also started, seems to have got enough. I haven't done much with WP:SHROPSHIRE for a while, but hope we can get it off the ground. Perhaps if there's not enough interested users we could merge WP:HEREFORD and WP:SHROPSHIRE with WP:WORCS and rename it? Perhaps WP:West Mercia after the area. TheRetroGuy (talk) 12:30, 10 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The draft proposal in Asdfasdf's sandbox is quite OK, but as you probably know, one of the best ways to make a project page is to find a good one and copy its basic layout and then populate more pages as the project grows. That way, it's easier to recreate all the required templates ensuring that they have the right code. I created the Worcs project by doing this. I'm not sure it's absolutely mandatory to go through the proposals process, but that process exists with the express purpose of ensuring that only projects get created that have a likelihood of remaining active. We've been lucky with Worcs that we've gathered a reasonable following, although it's a bit sporadic at times. I tend to help out on several projects for neighbouring counties, but I'm not sue there would be much support for merging Worcs with any of them. County projects all tend to be fiercely proud of their local identity and at Worcs we already have several thousand pages to manage, besides, there is I believe already a West Midlands project - you can check all that out on the WP:WORCS main page. I think you'd be doing a good job if you were to take a basic Salop project page through the creation process, you'll soon know if there is enough support. I actually did a lot of spamming and canvassing to get enough support for Worcs, but the idea to launch wasn't mine alone; It came mainly from teamwork that already existed while developing a set of pages for the Malverns, where several of the editors come from. Projects for rural counties are indeed hard to get going. This page: WP:WikiProject England/Projects will certainly provide you with the best possible overview of all the county projects and how they are performing.--Kudpung (talk) 14:15, 10 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
