Pinyin names and Chinese characters

[edit]

For each topic I am adding back the pinyin names and Chinese characters in parentheses. These were previously removed based on the rationale that the English translation is more appropriate for English Wikipedia, and that Pinyin and characters should be included in the articles themselves. In many cases the pinyin (or other romanization) is used more commonly than the English translation, as is evidenced in many of the names of the articles in the English Wikipedia. To have English, Pinyin, and characters consistently available at a glance in the template is valuable for casual users and scholars. We have mixed precedent, in that some English Wikipedia templates consistently use Pinyin names and/or Chinese characters and others use a mix, which reflects inconsistency in common use. For example, see Template:Chinese martial arts vs. Template:Kung Fu schools vs. Template:Chinese philosophy. TheProfessor (talk) 10:51, 31 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
