Palace of Tranquil Longevity

[edit]

@Viztor: Should Palace of Tranquil Longevity be added to this template as well? ---Another Believer (Talk) 14:36, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Viztor Also, do you know anything about Gate of Glorious Harmony, Gate of Blending Harmony (same as Gate of Supreme Harmony?), or Gate of Manifest Virtue? I'm not sure if these deserve Wikipedia articles or not. ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:58, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Viztor, Do you feel comfortable creating new stubs for these? ---Another Believer (Talk) 17:39, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Another Believer: Yeah with pleasure, though I do need to do some digging. Viztor (talk) 17:53, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Viztor, Great! Thanks, --Another Believer (Talk) 17:55, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Another Believer:Done. It took longer than I thought. I also organized the buildings into respective sections. Though it seems the important ones are all on the central road. Viztor (talk) 20:42, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Viztor: Should Hall of Mental Cultivation be added? You might add since I don't know the best location. ---Another Believer (Talk) 20:50, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Golden Water River

[edit]

@Viztor: Do you think there should be an article about the Golden Water River, per commons: Category:Golden Water River (Forbidden City, Outer Court) and zh:金水河 (北京)? Might you be able to create a stub? ---Another Believer (Talk) 20:59, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Another Believer: Yeah, it is doable, however there are two rivers, one is in the city, the other is outside and around the city. I'm not sure if to create a different article for each. Viztor (talk) 21:04, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Viztor, Are they connected? ---Another Believer (Talk) 21:06, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Gate of Manifest Virtue

[edit]
Resolved

@Viztor: Re: Gate of Manifest Virtue, which you seemed confused by above... here is what I was referring to: commons:Category:Gate of Manifest Virtue. Is this another name for a building with an existing article, or should another stub be created for this one as well? ---Another Believer (Talk) 21:01, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Another Believer: Yes. This is a different building and I can create a stub. TBH, there are just so many buildings in the Palace. Viztor (talk) 21:04, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Viztor, Thank you. ---Another Believer (Talk) 21:06, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Viztor: This just needs to be added to the template in the correct location as well. Thanks again! ---Another Believer (Talk) 21:29, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Gate of Moral Standards

[edit]

Should there be an article for the Gate of Moral Standards? (See commons: Category:Gate of Moral Standards.) ---Another Believer (Talk) 21:30, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, perhaps this is the same as Gate of Correct Conduct? ---Another Believer (Talk) 21:58, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Another Believer:Possibly, I'm not seeing the name anywhere over the internet. The Gate of Correct Conduct is on the other side of the Gate of Supreme Harmony in pair with the Gate of Manifest Virtue. Do you happen to have a picture where it shows the tablet?Viztor (talk) 22:06, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Vixtor: My pictures are at commons:User:Another_Believer/Beijing. If you just search for "Meridian Gate" you'll come to my images of Forbidden City, which are displayed in chronological order as I went through the area. I did not categorize all the images, so I'm just hoping whoever did was correct with their labeling. Should be helpful when comparing with the map, though. ---Another Believer (Talk) 22:08, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Morio: Just FYI, you categorized a lot of my photographs of Forbidden City at Wikimedia Commons. I'm basing some of the subject names and image additions here based on those categories. I'm not suggesting any inaccuracies on your part, but if you're interested in reviewing your labels or checking any of the stubs recently created based on these talk page discussions, that'd be helpful! Either way, thanks for your help at Commons. ---Another Believer (Talk) 23:15, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Cobblet and Timmyshin: Wanting to make you two aware of these recent talk page discussions as well, given some of your previous talk page comments on Forbidden City. Just in case you're curious! ---Another Believer (Talk) 23:20, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your comment. The names of the Commons categories which I created are basically based on official tourist maps/guides of the Forbidden City which I got there (I lived near there for about a year and used to take a walk inside/outside). As you notice, same as its Chinese names, English names of each building are pretty dignified, very carefully translated. And, it was impossible for an amateur to work such translations out for the Commons category names. Therefore, regarding them, there was no way other than relying on official guides. Anyway, I will recheck the Commons category names.--Morio (talk) 14:37, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Another Believer and Morio:I've done some digging, it appears the Gate of Correct Conducts and the Gate of Moral Standards are the one and the same, there is no problem with the translation, they both express the original literal meaning correctly, however, there are different ways to translate them for aesthetic reasons. Viztor (talk) 14:55, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Viztor, Thanks, do you plan to create a stub with both names in the lead? ---Another Believer (Talk) 14:57, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Another Believer, I just did. Do feel free to add one of your gorgeous pictures :) Viztor (talk) 15:43, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Viztor, Thank you! ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:44, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. Viztor (talk) 15:46, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Helpful map/source

[edit]

---Another Believer (Talk) 22:00, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Viztor: This map is incredibly helpful. If you happen to come across a list of the "pins"/sites on this map, I'd be interested in helping to "check off" the list to see which structures still need articles. Otherwise, I'll keep trying to reconcile by clicking around in the map and on-wiki. ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:51, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Another Believer:, I'm glad you're doing that, however, there are prob 90+ buildings in the palace. I will see what I can do. Thanks.Viztor (talk) 16:00, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Should we list artifacts?

[edit]

@TheLeopard: I see you removed the Artifacts section. In your edit summary, you wrote: "Don't think it should list Artifacts section for only one of them. And there are almost 2 million collections of of art in just one; it is impossible to choose what to list." There may be many artifacts in the collection but surely there aren't too many Wikipedia articles created for specific artifacts. I don't feel strongly about whether or not they are listed here, but can you give a bit more insight into your reasoning here? I also invite other editors to weigh in re: if there should be an Artifacts section. Thanks! ---Another Believer (Talk) 13:42, 14 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Should the rest of the palaces be listed on the template?

[edit]

There are a bunch of palaces (Six Western and Six Eastern) in the inner court that have an article but aren't listed in the template. Is this just an oversight or is there some rule against that? Keeper of the Queen's Corgis (talk) 19:40, 8 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Keeper of the Queen's Corgis If there's no discussion to not includes articles related to Palace Museum, I'd assume they've just not yet been added to the template. ---Another Believer (Talk) 19:51, 8 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
