Several missing European monarchies

[edit]

Why are Luxembourg, Liechtenstein and Monaco omitted from the list of European monarchies? The article for European monarchies explicitly states that there are currently 12 sovereign monarchies in Europe, which doesn't include the Order of Malta in its article. So, why is the Order of Malta included in this template? 108.38.97.130 (talk) 03:52, 20 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Kingdon of England should be added to the list of Former Monarchies in Europe as it, like the Kingdom of Scotland, ceased to exist in 1707 following the Union of the Crowns. 185.186.207.96 (talk) 08:15, 21 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I'm unsure if Tavolara should be included considering that there are no contemporary documents, only memoirs published during years later by the Bertoleoni themselves and foreign articles written in the 19th century which seems to simply have took them as true without questioning, which confirm that Charles Albert really did recognize and give to Giuseppe the title of King, only that he visited the island and did recognize him as having property on the island. The only contemporary document is by Alfonso Ferrero La Marmora, a contemporary of the visit of Charles Albert to the island, who confirmed indeed the visit of the island made by Charles Albert and wrote that when he visited the island he became friends with Giuseppe and jocking called him a King since he was the first permanent inhabitant of the island which was uninhabited before his settling of the island, and also recognize his properties on the islands, not sovereignty. Here a link to more information on it: https://www.transformationsjournal.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Trans35_02_Farinelli.pdf . Also that de facto Sardinia and then Italy always controlled the territory anyway, and indeed Italy also operates a lighthouse on the island by many years currently, which would make this only a micronation and not a country of the past and so for this I'm unsure if it should be included in the list. 82.84.2.195 (talk) 11:40, 19 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. Philroc (talk) 08:12, 23 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Basically, I noticed in the former monarchies I noticed it's included also Tavolara as a former kingdom, but I'm unsure if it should be included as a former monarchy of Europe since, at least from what I know, it never really was independent or a sovereign state ruled by Bertoleoni, he and his family simply were the first to permanently settle the islands and when the King of Sardinia visited the island he simply recognized his properties here, not his sovereignty over the island, and only jokingly called him a "King". Which would make I think the Kingdom of Tavolara at most what is called today a micronation.
For this I think, at least from what I know, that Tavolara shouldn't be included and removed from the list. Of course, if I'm wrong, I'm sorry. 82.84.2.195 (talk) 18:29, 25 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Putting aside the futility of the concept of a list of former monarchies in Europe, I agree that Tavolara does not belong in the current list. CMD (talk) 02:04, 26 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I suggest relocating Ottoman Empire to the Asia section, as that empire was predominantly located in the Middle East. 198.30.180.104 (talk) 20:22, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not done for now: please establish a consensus for this alteration before using the {{Edit semi-protected}} template. The Ottoman Empire spanned parts of several continents, and which direction it expanded in varied a lot over time, so I don't see this being an entirely non-controversial change. Scotland listed as former monarchy

[edit]

Why is Scotland listed as a former monarchy but not England? Surely either both counties should be listed or neither of them. The English and Scottish monarchies have been in personal union since 1603. Philip Stevens (talk) 15:16, 24 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
