Växjö's green-city programs and policies
[edit]I visited Växjö for about a week recently. I was quite impressed with the city as a very pleasant, livable place that is being developed with an excellent sense of direction. I feel strongly that someone should add information to the current English Wikipedia article, specifically concerning the good "green" things that are happening in the city and its immediate region.
For instance: the shift to renewable-energy reliance for electricity (specificaly, biomass), and also the project to reform the local chemical industry (a key industry in the city and surrounding area) to something more benign and in-step with the times. Also, I understood that plans are being considered for working toward the retrofitting of older buildings for energy efficiency. Also ideas about a possible "remaking village" in the city are being considered, so that jobless people could be employed in the recycling/rebuilding of discarded products into useful things.
In any case, I admired the high proportion of pedestrian traffic in the city (rather than there being cars everywhere). The carless "amenity" seating areas in the main part of the city are very nice — and the trails and areas around the two lakes are very well kept and pleasant. There are lovely wild birds there. I also very much liked the big food co-op with outdoor café seating & tables.
(I also liked the outdoor clothing and equipment stores.)
A city to be proud of! Joel Russ (talk) 01:37, 1 May 2015 (UTC)
- I feel a little sad that nobody followed up on my "Talk" entry, above. Vaxjo has something to tell the world about — and so far, the Wikipedia English article does not do a good job of that. The article needs improvement. Don't be overly modest or shy.
- This article makes the exemplary nature of Vaxjo clear: http://www.thelocal.se/20140124/the-swedish-city-touted-as-europes-greenest
- Of course, Vaxjo isn't perfect. But what existing town or city in the world is perfect? None. Vaxjo is simply a lot better than many, many other cities. And this has been publicly recognized. It's frustrating that the Wikipedia article doesn't communicate this to the reader. Please, someone, add the justified information — please add more about the city's accomplishments.Joel Russ (talk) 01:54, 17 August 2016 (UTC)
2015 arson incidents
[edit]Added back a condensed version of the 2015 arson incidents, this is relevent to the modern history. --Devokewater (talk) 13:58, 3 July 2020 (UTC)
Add audio of pronunciation of word Växjö
[edit]For better or worse, English is a very widely spoken language in today's world. For English speakers, it is difficult to try to work out the correct pronunciation of Växjö from its spelling. We tend to make a terrible mess of it, in our attempts.
Please include in the artical an audio that explains the proper pronunciation. That would be extremely helpful.Joel Russ (talk) 15:42, 24 June 2024 (UTC)
