Questioning some aspects of articles factuality

[edit]

Lacks reliable sources. It seems like a deluded national of the Indian state has written or contributed to this article. I make no apologies for supporting ULFA activities.Eliteforce 05:45, 10 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Personally I find the article quite reliable, there are lot of sources mentioned, however the interpretation of term 'reliability' can always be challenged --LegalEagle

10:57, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

How do you think that the article is biased? Who is deluded? You think a liberated Assam can stand on it's leg? Come on. Get a grasp of reality, instead of being on LSD. How many percent of Assam's populace will support an independent Assam? We are Indians and will always remain Indians.Shovon 17:53, 20 April 2008 (UTC)
Why not? If SEA countries like Laos and Thailand can stand on their own legs, so can Assam. The idea that Indocentric chauvinists use against the sovereignty of the Assamese nationhood is the same argument used the the British conservatives against Indian independance. Notice the uncanny similarity? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 120.56.224.70 (talk) 07:22, 28 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

State Dept. classification of ULFA

[edit]

This site on the state departments page has it listed as a terrorist organization. But on the page that is linked to on the main page, the state dept classifies it as an "group of concern" (or something similar).

Is it true?

[edit]

"Soon after the demolition of the Babri Masjid-Ram Janmbhoomi Temple building in 1992, the ULFA was reported to have stopped Hindu-Muslim riots in the Hojai region of Nagaon district by displaying arms openly". If true, then ULFA is much better than govts of Gujrat, UP and Bihar in this regard

We should try to believe our inner concious good things then every thing will get setteled. Try for this definetly you will get peaceful in your life. Hope our god will give peacefull life for both of us.

With Best Regards,

Rajesh M

What a load of garbage, benevolent ULFA. Please.... gimme a break. Having been responsible for the death of over 18,000 people. ULFA is noble, is it ? ULFA like so many other radical elements from within assam have repeatedly targeted bangla speaking muslims and butchered them claiming them to be illegal immigrants. Check the nelli massacre of 1983 in which over 3000 muslims lost their lives, a virtual repeat of it can be seen today in Bodoland. While right wingers predictably blame alleged illegal immigrants, while showing no sympathy to the victims most of whom are muslims. ULFA represents the worst of Assam. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 117.200.97.87 (talk) 02:24, 10 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Merger proposal (SULFA)

[edit]
The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
The result of this discussion was to add more content and References to the WP Article on SULFA rather than merging SULFA with United Liberation Front of Assam#Surrenders, as the nominator is now satisfied with Chaipau's posted reply in favor of the notability of the term SULFA. Sincerely, ← Abstruce 15:11, 26 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I AM proposing to merge SULFA with United Liberation Front of Assam. Not even a single references has been cited in the WP Article SULFA, even after nearly 9 years since its creation. And, it's topic should be covered at United Liberation Front of Assam#Surrenders. Kindly Comment. Sincerely, ← Abstruce 16:57, 22 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I suggest merging and redirecting SULFA to United Liberation Front of Assam#Surrenders. Thanks !! ← Abstruce 08:57, 23 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Comment: The basis of this proposal was not merely that it was unsourced. It was only a comment in favor of the merger. ← Abstruce 12:26, 23 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
comment: The above opposition is to the the merger proposal. The SULFA is independent of ULFA. And from the reference it seems they are on opposite sides of the fence. Chaipau (talk) 14:44, 23 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Reply: Dear Chaipau, I suggest You to read People's Consultative Group#Present status. According to that WP Article: In February 2011, Arabinda Rajkhowa was using the term ULFA and not SULFA, and they were talking about the "ULFA constitution". SULFA seems to be merely a very loose term coined and used by very few journalists. It does not have to be an official term used by the Government of India or by the surrendered members of ULFA ← (18:33, 23 October 2013 (UTC)), but it has to be significantly notable. Your view may still differ but I will try to explain !! Like everyone knows that "Operation Green Hunt" is an unofficial term, but it is still the most widely (and very notable) term used to describe GoI's operations against the CPI (Maoist). Sincerely, ← Abstruce 16:00, 23 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Comment: The SULFA are not merely surrendered ULFA. They were those who were allowed to retain their weapons, given bank loans, rehabilitated and even supported by the government in the 1990s (Please read the SATP article). As far as I can tell Rajkhowa did not officially surrender. He and a his current associates were arrested, and they were in judicial custody and they are currently out on bail. The SULFA on the other hand were second rung leaders who surrendered in 1990s. Chaipau (talk) 14:45, 24 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Reply: My Friend, I repeat: SULFA seems to be merely a very loose term coined and used by very few journalists. It did not had to be an official term used by the Government of India or by the surrendered members of ULFA, but it should have been a significantly notable term in the mainstream media, and it should be evident that a significant number of journalists used/are using the term quite often. If You believe that the term is notable, then I request You to add weight to what You are saying by adding a good amount of content based some Reliable Sources. Only one or only two sources may not do that. If what You have posted above, about the surrendered ULFA, was done by GOI/surrendered ULFA members or even published by the media (would be enough) under the name/umbrella term SULFA then the term would hold notability. The academic books or news articles mentioning the term "surrendered ULFA" and not "SULFA" would not be of use, but if in the Source, both has been used interchangeably, then also it would be OK. If You would do that, I would then withdraw this proposal. Please note that instead of revealing facts about the surrendered members of ULFA, please establish notability about the term SULFA. You may also want to read Wikipedia:GROUP as well. Sincerely, ← Abstruce 18:36, 25 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Reply: Here are two stories filed on the Saikia Commission that reported SULFA activities: Indian Express, Mainstream weekly. Here is SULFA covered in Assam Tribune and Indian Express. Here is SULFA, a subject of a novel [1]. Since this "organization" has been significantly covered in the media at the local and the national levels, by governments and in novels, it satisfies WP:ORG and deserves its own article. Chaipau (talk) 10:56, 26 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Comments: Rightly said, Dear Chaipau. Based on Your provided Sources, it can now be developed as an encyclopedic article. We shall now focus on adding more content and References to the WP Article, and change the Article's nearly 9 year old poor condition, rather than merging SULFA with United Liberation Front of Assam#Surrenders. Thanks !! ← Abstruce 14:55, 26 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Nomination withdrawn. Sincerely, ← Abstruce 15:11, 26 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Spelling Assam vs Asom

[edit]

I have moved the article back to United Liberation Front of Asom. For a time, it was at United Liberation Front of Assam, after a user had renamed it. For the state, the spelling Assam is more commonly used than Asom, but for the political/military organisation, Asom is what they use themselves, as well as what news sources use to refer to them. --Joshua Issac (talk) 16:47, 4 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Little information, not notable by itself Rogermx (talk) 13:52, 14 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose - SULFA was a notable movement in Assam politics for a period, acting independently (and often in violent confrontation with) from ULFA. The SULFA article can be expanded. --Soman (talk) 15:08, 14 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Closing stale July merge proposal; uncontested objection with no support. Klbrain (talk) 11:50, 19 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Founded at Rang Ghar or Sivasagar?

[edit]

The article first states that it was founded in Rang Ghar, but in the history tab of the article, it contradicts itself by saying it was founded in Sivasagar, in which place it was really founded? JJUPLOADS22 (talk) 22:12, 14 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
