Independence

[edit]

This line is unclear for me. In 1968, Rodrigues was joined with Mauritius when it attained independence; today it is an autonomous region of Mauritius. Did the island become an autonomous region in 1968 or 'today' i.e. whenever this was written down?  Klaas `Z4␟` V 16:59, 29 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I got an answer in Dutch Wikipedia. I'll edit the line myself :-)  Klaas `Z4␟` V 07:35, 30 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Paragraph cleanup - Russian Yacht Admiral Nevelskoi

[edit]

The following:

"In 1997, the Russian Yacht Admiral Nevelskoi, «Адмирал Невельской», forty-foot-long (12-metre) was found in the lagoon of Rodrigues Island after a two years voyage crew less. The yacht belonged formerly to the Maritime State Univertsity, Vladivostok . Was officially given to Honorable Bernard Eric Typhis Degtyarenko in 2010 by the Government of Russia and declared Maritime Museum.According to experts it is one of the most expensive yacht of the world in its category due to its historical value reaching several millions US dollars. ."[7] The yacht is the only historical link and object between Russia and Rodrigues and Mauritius."

Is borderline nonsensical gibberish. Can someone who has any idea what the original contributor was on about please attempt to clean up this mess? I'd do it myself, but I haven't the faintest idea what they were trying to convey here except that a Russian-registered yacht apparently floated into the lagoon uncrewed?

Also, sorry, but there's no chance this is "one of the most expensive yachts in the world", in its class or otherwise. The supposed citation for this claim is not a citation at all, but a photo, and a search of the web reveals no reliable 3rd party sources to back up this claim. This notation is also utterly irrelevant to the parent article.

In fact, now that I've researched it, I guess I'll attempt clean up this mess myself. With a hatchet.

Did some more. --Piledhigheranddeeper (talk) 18:44, 17 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Seem that about most expensive yacht of the world you did not read the whole and seem you are anti russian.. I read the phrase it is mosct expensive in the worls IN ITS CATEGORY . Also about what I read it was in the scientific review of boston University in article in Russian language. It was also declared the Maritime Museum in 2010. For several years it was known as a landmark for Rodrigues Island. Imray Edition Famous Author and Navigator, Rod Heikell Book Indian Ocean Cruising Guide [1]wrote about the Yacht Admiral Nevelskoi in Rodrigues , as a land mark for the international Navigators. 196.20.217.51 (talk) 04:38, 26 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Flora?

[edit]

The article mentions deforestation in the Mascarenes, and pictures show a rather treeless land (with some scruffy-looking clumps of vegetation), but it's unclear what the original flora of the island was, especially with all that rain (which tends to encourage lots of plant growth). Was it forested? Is the soil so bad that trees can't grow much? Did humans cut down the trees? Did introduced animals destroy them? Or is there actually a decent amount of woodland left? --Piledhigheranddeeper (talk) 18:47, 17 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The Rodrigues Regional Assembly page has a lot of great information about the government of Rodrigues. I think it would be a great second link. http://assembly.rra.govmu.org/English/Pages/default.aspx ৳€Ø฿€ƦȺ₡Ⱥƪ৳€Ø฿€ƦȺ₡Ⱥƪ 18:14, 28 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

But this article isn't about the government. --Ronz (talk) 20:42, 28 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
