Need more on the chemistry
[edit]eg what groups, bonds, structures make for useful photosensitisers at various wavelengths. - Rod57 (talk) 14:45, 13 November 2015 (UTC)
Summary of this article and my planned improvements
[edit]The content of this article is rather limited. The lead of this article has good breadth in the range of medicinal and chemical applications of photosensitizers, but there is little beyond the mentioning of topics related to photosensitizers. I am unsure if the inclusion of photosynthesis is worthy of being in the lead section, as I think it could go within a section related to photosensitizers in nature.
I believe that the body of this article is deeply lacking. The only section, "applications," only has one subheader: "medicinal." The information within the subheader is dated and reads more as a news update than a wikipedia entry. I believe there is also a gap in knowledge regarding the molecular-level events regarding photosensitizers, non-medical applications, the different classes of photosensitizers, and the history behind photosensitizers. Also, there exists only one image for the entire page, and that image is specifically for the medical application of photodynamic therapy, which is a page that already exists.
The tone of this page is seemingly neutral, and the viewpoints reflect a bias towards medicine; this is only due to medicine taking a majority of this article's space. I will try my best, with my additions and edits, to avoid bias as well. As far as the citations go, there are only 5 of them, and they consist of 2 journal articles, one news headline, one book, and an entry on the IUPAC website. Two of the citations are from Science. The sources are reliable and unbiased, but they are not from a variety of viewpoints. The book citation provides an ISBN but the link does not take you to the book.
I intend to add to the breadth of this article by adding relevant images and sections which are not currently present. I plan to condense the lead by adding references to my additions within the lead section to create a unified article. I will also improve upon the application section by adding catalytic and natural applications of photosensitizers. I may add a history section to provide historical context for the field of photosensitizers. I intend for the images to contain information regarding the chemical interactions within photosensitizers as well as schematics for some of the applications, potentially including drug delivery and the interactions which produce triplet and singlet state oxygen.
Please let me know if I am missing anything or if you all have anything which I should also add.- DownToBismuth (talk) 02:22, 28 January 2021 (UTC)
I am planning on adding to this page over the course of the next couple days. I will put sections in day by day. The sections are all in my sandbox, so le me know if I should change anything or if anything is egregiously bad. CheersDownToBismuth (talk) 02:23, 26 February 2021 (UTC)
additions
[edit]Hello all. I am slowly adding pieces to this article day by day. I have three more additions: 1. more applications. 2. types of photosensitizers and 3. photosensitizer processes. Each section has a few images. Let me know what you all think. If you want to see the changes I am planning, they are in my sandbox. Cheers. DownToBismuth (talk) 23:31, 26 February 2021 (UTC)
Peer Review
[edit]Great article, but just a couple suggestions: 1. For the figures for Type 1 and Type 2 in photosensitization, I would consider keeping them on the same side because it can become very wonking depending on the size of the window/browser. 2. The second bullet point in Parameters is missing a period at the end. 3. Under composition of photosensitizer, "Photosensitizers can be placed into 3 generalized domains based on their molecular structure." It is slightly unclear what the three are based on the heading and then subheading below nano, so I would just list them out in that sentence for clarity.
