Sony Acquisition

[edit]

We have a bunch of sloppy media articles. Heres the press release on Aug 19 [1] which clearly states that the acquisition is not complete. Sadly, several articles that even link to this release (eg like [2]) claim the deal is done, but this is simply not true yet. We cannot list Insomniac as a Sony studio until we know that deal is complete, as things can change at the last minute. --Masem (t) 04:06, 20 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@TheDeviantPro: We can also not consider this tweet to confirm the completion because the tensing in the tweet makes it obvious that the studio is actively in the progress of joining SIE WWS but has not done so yet. Lordtobi () 05:19, 20 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
This press released [3] from Sheppard Mullin is also not usable, it clearly refers to the deal as future tense: "Upon completion of the acquisition, Insomniac Games will join the global development operation of Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios (“SIE WWS”)." --Masem (t) 20:11, 21 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
For reference, today's financial statement from Sony still refers to the Insomniac Games acquisition as a future occurence, suggesting it still hasn't closed. Maybe we should add an "Acquisition in progress" efn in the meantime? Lordtobi () 17:16, 30 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Acquisition Done

[edit]

Some articles state that the acquisition has gone through [4], [5], [6]. So can we finally update this page?  Spy-cicle💥  Talk? 20:39, 3 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

See my comment above. Sony's latest financials (published Oct. 30) say:

With the aim of strengthening these things, in August, we announced the acquisition of Insomniac Games, [...] Insomniac Games will become SIE's 14th studio [...].

(emphasis mine)
I still suggest that we add an {{efn}} note stating that an acquisition is in progress to deter users from stating that it is complete. Once it is complete, there will most likely be official word (or a corporate filing) that we could build from. Awaiting @Masem's opinion on this, though. Lordtobi () 21:17, 3 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
That's my read: the first source is not direct from Sony, and the others appear to be still starting on the assumption that it was aquared two months ago. Sony has to publicly report the acquisition as a publicly traded company so it will appear on their investor website at some point. --Masem (t) 21:27, 3 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Ah I see, the acquisition is not fully through (pretty poor media articles). I would agree we add a note somewhere in the lead to state the aquisition is ongoing as seen on other articles like SIE Worldwide Studios as to not confuse users.  Spy-cicle💥  Talk? 17:56, 4 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe the other way we do it - given that there is likely not going to be a lot of fanfare on this, is to actually write out in the infobox, where people are likely looking, that Sony owns them, but make sure there is a footnote that says soemthing along the lines of "pending necessary approvals", until such a time we can confirm that. In prose, we should be absolutely clear that the acquisition is not complete, but the infobox is what I think gets editors upset over the state. --Masem (t) 01:35, 5 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Someone changed it again last night so I added the note. Lordtobi () 06:48, 6 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Wolverine, Venom, and X-Men internal release dates?

[edit]

After combing through the December 2023 leak, I've found an internal dev timeline containing internal release dates for Marvel's Venom (2025), Marvel's Wolverine (2026), and Marvel's X-Men (2030). Should we include these? It's not like we can publicly release the timeline, none of us own the copyright except Insomniac themselves. Could we use the Polygon article as a source?
