Poor English

[edit]

Several sections of this article are written in very poor English, leaving the reader to wonder what is being said. Someone who understand this topic (and who actually speaker proper English) needs to re-write those sections so the information will be accurately disseminated. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.126.226.142 (talk) 01:28, 24 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

translation

[edit]

Is it really "eight cords, one roof"? I thought it was "eight corners, one roof." --Ggeller (talk) 01:19, 22 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"corners of the world" is a western idiom. The kanji literally transliterates to "cord", and this translation is also used in a number of English language sources, such as Huffman, James (2006). Modern Japan, An Encyclopedia of History, Culture and Nationalism. Routledge. ISBN 0815325258. page 46.--MChew (talk) 16:42, 24 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

However, the «eight corners» is generally used by historians such as Bix, Wetzler and Edwards as it gives a better understanding of the true meaning of the word. The same is true of sankō sakusen which could be translated litterally as «operation three lights» but is translated as «operation three alls». --Flying tiger (talk) 17:27, 24 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Monument

[edit]

What's the current status of the Hakko-Ichiu Monument? Does it still stand? 172.132.72.182 (talk) 02:11, 7 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The monument itself till exists, and is the centerpiece of the Heiwadai Park in Miyazaki, Miyazaki, where it is now called the "Tower of Peace". See ja:平和台公園 --MChew (talk) 04:11, 7 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

226 and 515 rebellion

[edit]

Hakko ichiu means "all the world under one roof", Japan insisted Racial equality. The officers who commited 226 and 515 rebellion were executed by government, they are irrelavant of national slogan.--Bukubku (talk) 00:01, 19 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The rebellions of 2-2-6 and 5-1-5 were the direct result of growing nationalist movements, so at least there at is the link between this and expansionism. Certainly more relevant to the topic of the article than the Jews ??!!!! Anyway, I won't object to removal of the stuff related to rebellions, but will delete irrelevant matters such as jewish settlements and, most of all imperialist propaganda about the purpose of Manchukuo...--Flying Tiger (talk) 14:29, 19 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Natinalist movements were the rebel's movement. The govermental movement was more relevant to jewish. I added official sources.--Bukubku (talk) 12:33, 21 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Manchukuo was an occupied territory. There is nothing about racial equality about this topic. Moroever, there is NO link at all between Jews, racial equality and Hakko Ichiu...--Flying Tiger (talk) 17:14, 21 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Occupied or not, there were certainly racial equality for Jewish. Jewish and Hakko Ichiu Policy was enforced by Prime minister Konoe. 226 and 515 rebellions were not the National policy.--Bukubku (talk) 10:37, 22 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
And so what is the link ??? You have never answered about how «racial equality» is related Hakko Ichiu ! What is your goal here ? To demonstrate that Shōwa expansionism was in fact a quest for racial equality ?? That the Greater East Asia War was a war of liberation as claimed by the Japanese defenders during the Tokyo trial ?? Sorry, this is not the place for your political agenda ... --Flying Tiger (talk) 17:07, 22 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
? You have never answered about 226 and 515. They are irrelavant. And Kita Ikki was executed as rebel in 1937.--Bukubku (talk) 18:25, 22 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yes I have answered about that on 19 september. Meanwhile you choose to ignore my compromise and launched a war edit for your propaganda effort ! --Flying Tiger (talk) 21:52, 22 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Flying tiger, Japan insisted racial equality and protected Jewish. They were the fact. Why good deed description was banned by you? There are good and bad aspect. I mixed your editon and your deleted one. --Bukubku (talk) 00:48, 23 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The credibility of our wiki-project is not enhanced by restoring the 2012 wording. --Enkyo2 (talk) 13:22, 15 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

A stub article on David G. Goodman was created.

A cursory review of Chapter IX of the 1995 Free Press edition of Jews in the Japanese Mind does not show that the author's focus was Hakkō ichiu. This reference has been deleted -- see here.

Please notice that Goodman's opinion about historical revisionism is still cited with a linked excerpt form another source. --Enkyo2 (talk) 15:14, 15 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The credibility is called into question by not fully acknowledging and owning that the nationalistic movement prior to during WW2 was extremely racist and focused on world domination. Japan has a history and culture of denial of responsibility due to the lack of regime change after the war and suppression of education about war atrocities. To claim that there wasn't racism due to some minor occasions of Jews not being treated badly is poor logic. They aligned themselves with the Nazis due to the common belief of a master race, although considering themselves to being given a mandate from Heaven to dominate the world.
