Joe Finocchio's Name

[edit]

I'm an Italian speaker, someone told me this factoid and it was just too strange to believe but sure enough, here's the article confirming that that a guy who opened the first drag bar in San Francisco coincidentally had a last name that in his native language basically means "faggot". Does anyone have any credible history or backstory on the man named Joe Finocchio? It's just too hilarious an intralinguistic gag to believe it happened by total chance, that he wasn't a gay guy named Joe Conti or Joe Moriarti who changed it to Finocchio because nobody in the US would know what that meant and the joke would be epic. Hi LoverOfArt! We have inline citations with the article showing he was using the name Joe Finocchio and his wife used the last name Finocchio. But in that time period (Joe was born in 1898 and died 1986) in the USA you could easily change your name, especially if it was considered a "foreign" name so it would really hard to tell his past history. I did not find anything mentioning it in any articles. If you find it please do add it to this article with citation! Jooojay (talk) 19:27, 15 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
