[edit]

The problem with this page is that there are far too many specific incidents being attributed as typical bernard black charateristics. These examples happen only once in the entire series and are there purely as jokes which play on his characteristics rather that accually being something he does everyday. for example the phrase "his idea of a stylish haircut is to get someone to slice off clumps of his wildly disordered, overgrown hair with a bread-knife." shouldnt be mentioned as it only happens once and we are not lead to believe that this is a normal occurance. Other such examples of this should be removed from this article and subsequent black books character articles. however, the haircut thing and similar things can be put into a seperate section. A good profile sentince is like this one: "Due to his questionable personal hygiene, the bookshop is also often afflicted with bizarre examples of uncleanliness." which describes something that happens throughout the series without limiting it to a specific incident. i propose to clean up the article by removing unnessicary examples. --Paradox CT 02:08, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Why

[edit]

Must everyone be a misanthrope? I would hardly describe Bernard as a misanthrope OR a cynic. "Neurotic" and "pessimistic" are much better. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tzler (talkcontribs) 06:52, 28 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

He is a misanthrope. Have you watched the series at all? He hates people. 83.147.185.177 (talk) 03:37, 11 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Agree with 83.147.185.177. He hates people; thats the whole point of the show! Ceoil (talk) 19:15, 11 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Subtitle - 'Plot details'

[edit]

This is a character page 'Plot details' must be a mistake. Also the show itself contains countless inconsistencies and I think, as a result, some conclusions are ill-conceived or overstated. For example; "When questioned by Manny in Series 1 Episode 2, Bernard reveals that he thought he was gay 'for a bit', but that he was discouraged by 'the prohibitive standards of hygiene. And all that dancing!'. It is revealed in Grapes of Wrath that he used to own a cat, Nipsey. Manny breaks to him the news that Nipsey is dead." The remark is very flippant and the story moves on rather quickly after. I would have drawn the conclusion that him being a grumpy git and Irish it was a bad joke.
