Darragh McCarthy (born 2005 (age 18–19)) is an Irish hurler. At club level he plays with Toomevara. At inter-county level he was selected, in December 2024, for inclusion in the "training panel" of the Tipperary senior hurling team.

Career

[edit]

McCarthy played as a student at St Joseph's CBS Nenagh and captained the school's senior team to their maiden Harty Cup title in 2024.[1] McCarthy later studied at University of Limerick and also won a Freshers 1 League title in 2024.[2]

At club level, McCarthy first played for Toomevara at juvenile and underage levels. He won consecutive North Tipperary U19AHC titles in 2023 and 2024.[3][4] McCarthy also joined the club's senior team in 2023 and was the overall top scorer when Toomevara were beaten in the 2024 SHC final.[5]

McCarthy first appeared on the inter-county scene for Tipperary at the age of 17 as a member of the minor team that won the All-Ireland MHC title after a defeat of Offaly in 2022.[6] He immediately progressed to the under-20 team and was an All-Ireland U20HC runner-up in 2024.[7] McCarthy's performances at school and inter-county underage levels resulted in a call-up to the senior team's training panel in mid-December 2024.[8][9]
