Giratina (ギラティナ) is one of the Template:Pokenum fictional species of Pokémon creatures from the multi-billion-dollar[1] Pokémon media franchise – a collection of video games, anime, manga, books, trading cards and other media, created by Satoshi Tajiri. Giratina is one of the legendary Pokémon that premiers in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. The purpose of Giratina in the games, anime and manga, as with all other Pokémon, is to battle both wild Pokémon, untamed creatures encountered while the player passes through various environments, and tamed Pokémon owned by Pokémon trainers.[2]
"Giratina" translates directly into "Guillotina", which keeps with this Pokemon's fierce nature.
Appearance
Giratina's body structure somewhat resembles a cross between a centipede and basilisk with demonic touches. Like a centipede, it has a long, segmented body, with six basilisk-like legs. Giratina has two black wing-like protrusions coming out of its neck. Its torso has three yellow circles around it that match the color of its head. These look very similar to a ribcage, opening up the length of its body. Its head is similar to that of Diaruga & Parukia.
In the video games
Giratina will make it first appearance in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl alongside with many other Pokémon on the Nintendo DS. Giratina is one of the Legendary Pokémon in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. It is encountered later in the game after one receives the National Dex, located at a hidden lake near the Return Cave.
Its Ghost and Dragon-type combination make it resistant and immune to many other types. But still, Giratina is vulnerable to Ghost, Dark, Ice and Dragon-type attacks. It is the first "undead, or Ghost" legendary pokemon. Its trademark ability is "Shadow Drive," a powerful Ghost attack. It is the only Pokemon to date to have weaknesses to it's own types - Ghost and Dragon being weak against themselves.
According to Serebii.net, Giratina is known as the "Rebel" Pokemon. It's Stat Total (680) is on par with Rayquaza, Ho-oh, Lugia and Mewtwo - and beat Regigigas, whose Stats total is 670.
It is level 70 when found and apparently lives in a world that is "opposite" to that of the human world.
This can relate to Mewtwo because, unlike Regigigas it's in a cave with very tough wild pokemon.
