Any reason for referring to User:PrinceGloria as "her" in this edit? Apparently a "Prince Gloria" is a brand of motorcar, so does not indicate anything about the user or his gender. K7L (talk) 05:05, 10 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, oop. Despite my brain's insistence that any "Gloria" must be female, I was already aware of that, as you can see from this correction. I just missed that reference when I was going back over it. I fixed it now. Thanks. Texugo (talk) 10:06, 10 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

I know it is not policy to have links to wikipedia, but if you are going to do this would it not be a good idea to add a link to the locations web page and convert to a proper listing. Just making the entry less informative seam a little negative move and activity. --Traveler100 (talk) 14:08, 24 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

I'll try to be a little sensitive to that, but most of these are info about people, events, or other things that do not have any official webpage. Texugo (talk) 14:14, 24 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
In some cases, there is no official webpage but the item is a valid thing to "see" as part of an itinerary. I remember this issue arising before with the memorial park statues for the RMS Titanic victims, they don't have an official page but are notable to the Titanic cities itinerary. Removing these links doesn't help the traveller. K7L (talk) 18:30, 24 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
Practically every medium-sized or large city in the world, and many small ones, will have at least one item which "doesn't have an official page but is notable", and most of them will have several. I realize that is an argument used by those who wish to open the floodgates to WP links, but it does not mean we will go ahead and allow the policy to be ignored every time someone considers something notable. Texugo (talk) 18:35, 24 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
Unfortunately, what you're doing with this long string of mass updates, content-removal edits to multiple unrelated articles, really shouldn't be done without obtaining some sort of consensus first, much like we don't let robot scripts run amok on the site without prior authorisation. K7L (talk) 03:44, 25 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
I beg to differ. What I am doing has already been backed by consensus for over a decade. It is a long standing policy, to which there have never been consensus-backed exceptions, being enforced in exactly the same way we have always enforced it. Since it's a well-established policy, it doesn't really matter if I do one edit, or a string of 10, or a string of 60, no more than it would if I did a string of 60 edits fixing headers or weeding out montages or changing first person. Lots of us go on such maintenance sprees. We don't need to get a new consensus to enforce an established policy just because someone now doesn't want it do be enforced. If anything needs consensus, it would be allowing an exception for one or more of those links to stay. Texugo (talk) 11:08, 25 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
There is not consensus, there is deadlock... and no, a mass update of some huge number of articles is a very different beast from manually editing one page. K7L (talk) 16:54, 13 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
I'm sorry, but you really don't have any leg to stand on here. WV:External links#What not to link to explicitly lists other-topic Wikipedia links as something to be avoided. The External link usage further down that same page reiterates that listing and in-article links should point only to primary sources, which WP obviously is not. And if that weren't enough, WV:Links to Wikipedia specifically says "The External links guidelines do not permit links from Wikivoyage articles in the Main namespace (travel articles) to Wikipedia articles (except in the "Related sites" menu), as they are not primary sources.". There is no ambiguity about it; it is more than clear that we do not allow them, and the policy and practice have stood solidly as such for over a decade. My correction of extant issues merits no more controversy than everyday spelling corrections or section heading standardization, and it doesn't matter whether those are done individually or serially because they are fully sanctioned by existing written policy. The only deadlock is the standstill on the proposal to start allowing them. But that won't affect current policy or practice until after any such consensus for change is reached. Hot dog

[edit]

In New York, "hot dog," "weiner" and "frankfurter" are used interchangeably. The word refers only to the sausage, not the bun, but normally, when you say you ate weiners or what have you, people would assume you had them on a bun. Ikan Kekek (talk) 02:44, 15 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hi Ikan Kekek. That must be a regional usage then. If anyone said to me "I ate a wiener" or "I ate a frankfurter", I would totally assume they must mean without a bun; otherwise they'd have said "hot dog". On the other hand, would anybody in New York or anywhere else ever say "I ate a hot dog" to specifically mean they ate only a sausage with no bun? I have a hard time imagining that. Texugo (talk) 11:15, 15 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, it's possible, though it's usually assumed that you probably had it with a bun. Same thing with "I ate a hamburger". But which one is a regional usage? I don't know enough about usage in every other part of the country to know, as I never asked anyone about this question. Ikan Kekek (talk) 13:44, 15 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
Not sure either. But in any case, it doesn't seem that mentioning frankfurter and wiener as alternative names for the sausage itself (my edit) should raise any eyebrows, while mentioning them as alternative names for the whole sandwich (the previous wording) is sure to. On Creating A Wikivoyage Account To Take Credit For Pages I Made

[edit]

Dear Texugo, My name is Naoki and I'm an 18 year old Japanese boy who's been browsing Wikivoyage since 2013. Overtime, I created the Manchu and Kalmyk phrasebooks and since last year (when I started to put much more effort into my Kalmyk studies), I've been making frequent additions to the Kalmyk phrasebook page. Today, I received a notification after my latest edit to the Kalmyk phrasebook describing the benefits of creating a Wikivoyage account (the page was titled "Why Register?") and the one that stood out to me was getting credit for pages I create. I apologize for disturbing you but regarding this, I have a couple of questions and as an administer you seemed to be the right person to ask: If I create a Wikivoyage account, can I immediately take credit for the Manchu and Kalmyk phrasebook pages? Also, is there an obligation that I create/edit many pages/can I stick to refining the Kalmyk phrasebook? I await your reply, Sincerely, Naoki

P.S. This is my first time using a Wikivoyage user's talk page so I may not notice a reply immediately (though I'll be sure to check frequently). I apologize in advance if I don't notice your reply immediately.

Getting Started

[edit]

Dear Texugo, This is Naoki from the previous post. I apologize for this late reply but I have finally managed to find time to create a Wikivoyage account. I apologize if this is against the rules but I have just created my account and I can't find any guidelines on communicating with other users (apart from leaving comments on Talk Pages) so I would just like to ask, what exactly should I be working on now that I created my account? Is it enough that I simply create a profile and then resume work on the Kalmyk and Manchu Phrasebooks?

I await your reply

Hi Ibaman! Still alive here. Sorry to disappear. I just had a drastic reduction in the time I had free to devote to this project, so I've been on hiatus, but things are changing again, so I may be more active soon. Take care! Texugo (talk) 21:42, 14 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Docent

[edit]

Hi, Texugo! Are you still available as a docent? I've noticed you haven't been on Wikivoyage since 2016, so just need to check whether you want us to retain you as docent. Many thanks, ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 00:08, 23 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hey there! I haven't edited for a while but I'm still here and I check in once in a while to see what's new. Just haven't had a lot of time to invest like I did before. I do get my messages on here pretty quick and I'm happy to reply. I believe I am only a docent on three pages and I'm not sure if I've ever been contacted for help on that account, but I'm still happy to help if called upon. Does that answer your question? Texugo (talk) 02:24, 23 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
It certainly does, thank you for your continued help :-) --ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 10:22, 23 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hey! Yeah I'm still around, still in Austin. I pop in every once in a while and I still get notified if anyone posts on my talk page. Just haven't had much time to contribute much since I moved to the States. I still hope that will change before too long... Texugo (talk) 02:34, 26 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for confirming. See you in two years... ;-) --ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 16:34, 31 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Erro no redirecionamento que fez.

[edit]

How we will see unregistered users

[edit]

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

New bureaucrat inactivity policy

[edit]

You are receiving this message because you are a bureaucrat on this wiki.

Following a successful change in the inactivity policy, the bureaucrat policy has now been updated. Bureaucrats may now have their privileges removed if they have not:

  • Made one edit
  • Made one admin or bureaucrat action

over a 12-month period.

Bureaucrats who do not meet these requirements will be notified well in advance on their talk pages. Thank you.

Bureaucrat status (official notice)

[edit]

Thanks for your service as a Wikivoyage bureaucrat. As you may be aware, our bureaucrats policy indicates that bureaucrats who have not edited the English Wikivoyage or made at least one admin or bureaucrat action in over 12 months should have their bureaucrat flags removed. This is for account security purposes, not a reflection of a loss of trust or any disappointment.

This is currently being discussed at Wikivoyage talk:Bureaucrats#Inactive bureaucrats 2022/09. All comments are more than welcome.

Administrator status (official notice)

[edit]
A similar message was also sent via email.

Thanks for your service as a Wikivoyage administrator. As you may be aware, our Wikivoyage:Administrators policy indicates that administrators who have not edited on the English Wikivoyage in over two years should have their administrator flags removed. This is for account security purposes, not a reflection of a loss of trust or any disappointment.

As such, we will be removing your administrator flag on January 23, 2023. Should you wish to retain your status, simply come on back and make an edit! That resets the clock. And if you ever decide to return to Wikivoyage as an active editor, your administrator flag can be restored by request.

If you have any questions or concerns, let me know.

--sent by SHB2000 via MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 10:43, 23 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hi, just a message to let you know that you have until the 23rd, not the 5th (as I mentioned earlier). Apologies for any confusion caused around this. --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 11:15, 23 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
Hi Texugo. Your administrator status has now been revoked. I have reassigned you to the 'patroller' and 'autopatroller' groups, should you ever return to active Wikivoyaging. Thanks again for your service as an admin, and happy travels! All the best, ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 13:01, 23 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
